Redshirting question -- Topic

Last season I informed a player I had recruited for multiple cycles that I wanted to redshirt him. He responded by dropping all the recruitment credit I had accrued to that point. But when I withdrew the redshirt intention on the following cycle I didn't get any of my recruiting credit back and was back at zero. Has anybody else had that experience? Is that to be expected in the new recruiting system, and if so, how likely or unlikely is it to happen? The unfortunate result is I can no longer float a redshirt intention to a recruit for fear of losing all the points and money I've invested in that player. Seems like a steep price to pay for what should be a non-controversial recruiting action.

I’ve had the same thing happen to me. I just steer clear of that recruiting action. If I want to redshirt a guy, I’ll try after the rollover of the world. If he doesn’t accept it, I just take it off. The action is too volitale for me to justify using it.

I have seen this happen but only when I was D3 recruiting a D1 and JUCO's who have the want to play preference. I am certain is has never happened on JUCO's who don't have that preference.

It will happen SOMETIMES but by no means always

In the last month there was another good thread on this - go back and see what people said

My take is

- dont inform of redshirt until the guy is considering you at very high

- bigger risk if the guy is a reach for your school

- lesser risk if the guy is thrilled that you are interested
