Think of the government as a humongous DMV. They aren't the least concerned about your wait time. They almost certainly never exceed your expectations. Government cannot manage itself. David Axelrod, Obama's campaign manager, explained that government had become so vast it was unmanageable. Nothing is done on time, or on budget. They cannot for the most part be held accountable. Why on Earth should we ever want to expand their ability to waste more of our time and money?
Think of any goods or services provided by the government as a tax. Every worker, desk, office building, every check they write. It all requires funds derived from taxes.
The Boston tea party was an outrage based on taxes ranging around 2%. The colonists were upset over The Crown's demands that they purchase all of their goods from the East Indian Trading Company, merchants of the British government. Privateers like John Hancock led the rebellion.
Today there are Americans paying more than 20x that tax rate. Ridiculous
I think the tea-partiers would have been fine with the 2% tax if they had representation.
And we pay taxes to support useful government programs that help people. Taking those programs away is not beneficial.
Now, if you want to argue that government is inefficient, I agree with you, and reform needs to be made. I don't see how the solution is no government.
