You can't make fun of people's religion without ******* them off. Your choice.

The choice we are facing is stark. Socialism in small doses might work, but you cannot remove the incentive to do better without anarchy. Over time people will see hard work is a waste of time, when the guy next door just sits on the porch, waiting on the postal worker to drop off his check.

Capitalism provides opportunity. Sure, some businesses will fail, but many will move up the ladder. Today Quaker Window announced a new plant will be built in Eldon, Missouri, 35 miles SW of Jefferson City. Initially they will hire 300 workers. But it creates additional opportunity. Housing, a bank, gas station, restaurants, office supplies, trade workers to build and then maintain the facility. Down the street a nail shop and a deli will open. Giving people incentive to do better, to live the American dream does not need Socialism. We are quickly nearing a full workforce. Just about everyone looking for a job has found one. Businesses will be forced to compete for workers. That is how you create an increase in wages, not artificially when businesses are barely getting by. That causes layoffs.

People need to see the danger of the people existing to serve the government. It was created to serve the people. Those with power want to remain in power. They make the rules. The rules benefit them, not us. Money gives them the means to maintain control. This is K Street. You are either with us, or with them. It is essential that as much money as possible be taken away from their control. State and local government is much more efficient.
What the HELL are you talking about? Do you have schizophrenia?
No, I possess no mental impairment. What exactly do you take issue with?
Who is talking about socialism?

The only person on here who advocates somewhat for socialism is BL.

Think of the government as a humongous DMV. They aren't the least concerned about your wait time. They almost certainly never exceed your expectations. Government cannot manage itself. David Axelrod, Obama's campaign manager, explained that government had become so vast it was unmanageable. Nothing is done on time, or on budget. They cannot for the most part be held accountable. Why on Earth should we ever want to expand their ability to waste more of our time and money?

Think of any goods or services provided by the government as a tax. Every worker, desk, office building, every check they write. It all requires funds derived from taxes.

The Boston tea party was an outrage based on taxes ranging around 2%. The colonists were upset over The Crown's demands that they purchase all of their goods from the East Indian Trading Company, merchants of the British government. Privateers like John Hancock led the rebellion.

Today there are Americans paying more than 20x that tax rate. Ridiculous
I think the tea-partiers would have been fine with the 2% tax if they had representation.

And we pay taxes to support useful government programs that help people. Taking those programs away is not beneficial.

Now, if you want to argue that government is inefficient, I agree with you, and reform needs to be made. I don't see how the solution is no government.
Limited government, not elimination of government. By the way, providing safety for the citizens is a primary federal govt role. Open borders kinda hamper that effort.

This is what I was thinking. Trump is undoubtedly politically divisive, but it did not start with Trump. It truly started with Obama.

Talk about misinformed statements.

Obviously I was exaggerating and I apologize for that.

What kind of open borders are you talking about? I support vetting and background checks and the like, and I am anti illegal immigration and sanctuary cities.

That said, I support people being allowed to immigrate to the USA.

Long day.

And I really despise libertarianism. I think the ideology sets us backwards, makes no sense, promotes the wrong values, and doesn't work.

I got Miami AND CCCP to admit that my ideology works in countries where it is implemented!
10/12/2018 11:28 PM
I too approve of immigrants coming here. Legally, waiting their turn. Not wading across the Rio Grande.
10/12/2018 11:29 PM
Soooo is that open borders? I think you are correct, open borders is non-compatible with libertarianism (BTW, I learned yesterday that open borders used to be a libertarian policy).

I don't take as much offense to Trump's immigration policy as many others do. I don't think much of it is effective, but it is far from the biggest problem I have with him.
10/12/2018 11:32 PM
Tang, what you fail to realize is that social welfare does not help families. It creates a temporary band aid, but over generations it does much more harm than good. It creates an unhealthy reliance on government. I have told you the story about the sixth grader that told me "I don't have to do his work because I will always receive a check." This goes back to the dependency that I was referring to. It is a mindset that can last many generations. People in power use social welfare to enslave their populace.

Another good example that I can give you deal's with my aunt. She is in her mid-60's and has lived off of my grandfather her entire life. He has created a monster. She has very little understanding of how to manage money and has never been able to keep a job. She has no desire to keep a job because she knows that daddy will always be there with his check book. Guess what, he just turned 94. At most, and this is being highly optimistic, he has 5-10 years left with us. What is she going to do when he passes. She's already burnt through her inheritance. The problem that my grandfather created is the same problem that our government has created.

I know you find me harsh on this issue, but I am actually not. I believe that the American people are stronger than what many on the left and our government give them credit for. I believe that if we did not have as many social safety nets, people would still find a way to survive and thrive.
10/12/2018 11:36 PM
Under Obama, we saw record numbers of people on many forms of welfare. A trend being reversed. Quickly.

Not misinformed at all. We have always had a political divide. The divide grew significantly during Bush's second term, but Bush wasn't a divisive president. He was a bad president and this drove a wedge between the parties. Obama was an intentionally divisive president. McConnell and the crew take blame here as well. It's not all on Obama. Prior to Bush, the country worked together fairly well. There were disagreements, but Reagan/O'Neill and Clinton/Gingrich were very civil adversaries and knew how to find a middle ground.

We can, shall, should help those unable to make it on their own. Unable does not equal unwilling. There must be incentive for people to want to do better. That is not being cold or uncaring. It is the opposite. It is good for them.

With our ducks in a row, we are better equipped to provide for those who need us.
