Silent Auction League Topic

The psychology of this league is fascinating. Four people decided to take a shot at Ruth, but only one owner took a shot at Maddux, and none took a chance on Pedro.

Although as we get into the middle rounds, and the elite players are all gone, I suspect we won't see nearly as many blacklisted players.

I had been toying around with the idea of doing an auction league for Round 2 of the WISC this year but pushed it to next year. The format was going to be different than this (i.e. live rather than silent), but this is already a lot of fun.

What is the rule for somebody submitting a blacklisted player? it's going to happen? There are two options...

1. Submitting a blacklisted player = same penalty as submitting a player submitted by somebody else... wait until round 2 for next submission

2. Get a site-mail back, asking to submit another player. This is the nice thing to do, but will add a lot of extra time between rounds as we wait for re-submissions.

This is rough. Getting your man in the first round definitely helps.
For sure. I'm still crabby about leaving Mathewson, Walter Johnson, and Pedro on the table in 1.1 - would really like one of them about now.
I didn't pick any of them because I was sure someone else would. Went for Brown thinking he was just outside that small group of sure picks, so I suppose I should just be grateful and move on.

Yeah I had thought of that too and my initial plan was #2, but I now am leaning towards #1 as you are correct that would be an unnecessary slowdown, especially if that owner sends me a request and then logs off for several hours.

All the blacklisted players are clearly posted. I think if someone submits a blacklisted player, that counts as their pick for that portion of the round, and they have to re-pick with everyone else who doesn't get a player.

I agree with #1. The onus is on us to look at the blacklist.

I am just amazed that Silver King wasn't taken 5+ times.

With my luck, I'll match up with someone for like 8 straight picks this round.

Rules amended as follows:
**10/19 Update: If an owner submits a player who is on the blacklist or has already been selected, that request will be treated as if it is a matching request; that is, that owner will need to wait until the next iteration in that round to submit another request.

It only took me 5 picks to get a player in the first round. At this rate, I'll be making 125 picks in this draft.

On the flip side of that, it must suck a bit to get your man in the first round, and then watch more players get blacklisted while you wait for the next round to start. Obviously it's good to get your man up front, but you also have to sit and watch the talent pool dwindle further.

2nd pick reluctantly submitted.

I bet after all those studs didn't get picked first round, more people submit studs this round.
