some of the stuff he does (namely putting one or two kids per year in permanent doghouse) makes me think i might not like him as a person. and we can have all the typical arguments over how good is he at coaching. i think hes pretty good.

but the rants are just entertaining as hell to me.

love boeheim on mcnamara. that was legendary. i dont know why but i love a guy like boeheim, mora, edwards after they lose. they just put it all out there.

That was after they won! Gmac hit the 3pt runner at the buzzer to beat UC in the BE tourney.
GMac - grew up on my street (four blocks up the street from my family's house), went to my elementary school, went to my high school.

Since we've mentioned Rutgers basketball how about some quotes from Mike Rice?

Mike Rice was an assistant at Marquette the year after Kevin O'Neill left in '94. Rice was mild mannered compared to O'Neill.
Those with the program said O'Neill really wasn't one to use the positive approach to motivate the players. It also has been said that during his coaching days O'Neill thought "mother" was half a word.

I think the pressure had gotten to Rice and he was just in way over his head trying to turn that program around at Rutgers.

Listening to him in post firing interviews, you can tell he realized me had made a mistake and is sorry, but I don't know if that means giving him a second chance, that's up to the next person that is interested in hiring him.

Don't get me wrong, what happened was awful and there was no excuse for it, but if you take that out of it, he doesn't seem like a half bad guy.

I used to be an intense coach when I was younger, but more laid back now.

I think it's ok to be intense, if it fits your style, as long as the players respond to it.

But certainly and hopefully nothing like we had witnessed at Rutgers.

If he's getting intense from anger then that might not be a good thing.

Rabid wolverine was my initial reaction.

I always liked Mike Rice because Rutgers was one of the few teams my alma mater South Florida could beat in Big East Conference play.

No way. Rutgers football at least has made the postseason and won a few bowls under Schiano about 10 years ago.

You weren't even alive the last time Rutgers made the NCAA tourney. Sad!

"Manley Field House is officially closed."

For Syracuse fans... what made you fans of SU? Did you actually go to school there? Did you grow up nearby like my wife and in-laws? Are you from far away but like their style of play or their players? Pearl? Carmelo? Marty Headd?

I had to quote Thompson... there was too much Orangeman love in this thread and i'm a (gulp) Friars fan.
