To answer the first question the US would be seen as responsible for the disaster. The Canadians fleeing could go further north and east or west. Their would be no need for immigrating to the US

British tried to do that with the French in the 1755 with deportations to France and other unrequired violence. which is why Acadiens and Southern Cajuns are the same ancestry. French Culture lives on.
The Americans tried to do it to the French fortifications (Benedict Arnold in Quebec) and the English Canadian (Saint John) colonies Poorly informed and eager American troops attempted to overthrow strong holds in the east (The Battle in what is now Saint John, NB) Historic maps from the era during the conflict show Canada divided into states under the US Control. But it never happened.
If The US were to invade at such a time Canada would stand up and say "Mange la merde!" and fight back!

Lewiston played in the "Quebec Major Junior League" So yes they did exist and That was there logo.
