To save on overhead management will not be buying a glove for this guy

1995 Edgar Martinez $8,243,243
And after I didn't steal your catcher from you...

Oh well, I'll go with 1951 Jackie Robinson $8,415,282

Things I love about this theme:
  • the opportunity to pick up points in a draft and not just in leagues of play
  • it's super-engaging (i'm on here constantly checking in)
  • actual caps will vary from team-to-team like real baseball
  • amount spent on roster may not correlate to the standings
  • I'm getting to use some different players (welcome to the team Davis and Brouthers!)
  • some of the best owners on here are flummoxed by this (I'm guessing it's the uncertainty?)
  • I love platoons, but not many themes really end up working out well that require positional platoons; this one will
  • NO PLAYER FATIGUE (I'm growing tired of this)
  • NO GREG MADDUX (I love him like the next guy, but man I starting to need some space)

Things I don't love about this draft:
  • too slow (how long did that first *lowest salary* round take?)
  • the uncertainty (i've no idea what my final team is going to look like and we're 11 rounds in!)
  • I could lose points (it's dangerous trying to stay competitive without losing any points)
  • I've discovered "advanced search" options (lol)
  • finding out that some of you have much bigger balls than I

Overall I like this theme. I think it's brilliant to include a draft as an opportunity to make up or lose points in the finals. That's clearly because I'm the last guy in, but I think i'd like it anyway.
I agree with almost all of this. I'm having a lot of fun, even though I'm definitely worried about how it's going to turn out.

I know that Ozo was worried about this being too much about gimmicks and not about playing the game, but almost none of us will end up with a "traditional" team, so there's going to be some serious managing happening once the league actually starts.

Of course, we're only in round 11 so there's still plenty of time for things to go completely off the rails.

On the idea that things could go 'off the rails', I was wondering how bad people think it will get.

How many people will end up taking penalty points? 0 is not a possibility because mdc2276 already got trapped by running out of catchers.

I voted for 4-5.

I voted 6+, CHAOS REIGNS

Lol. I think it will only be 2-3, but I could be wrong.

Too soon to tell. Could be just 1 if people draft sanely. could be 6+ if there's a mad scramble to get the expensive players first.

The more likely people try to scramble towards the expensive players early, the more likely the lower owners will attempt to block them.

This is a great insight.

in all seriousness I think the last few rounds are going to be a bloodbath, but I will also point you to my previous statement that I don't know what the hell I'm doing.

I'm surprised Edgar was still available. Did people forget about the DH?

If no one said anything on the boards and just let things happen, I guarantee 10 to 12 people would incur penalties, including myself, and this would have gotten ugly. Now everyone is terrified which can be seen in the more conservative picks the past few rounds so I'd be surprised if too many more incur penalties, unless they want to.

I think it's a safe bet that we'll see some of the most expensive mopup pitchers in this league since the Earl Whitehill/Willis Hudlin fun in the 16x16 league.

1977 Tom Seaver $6,538,580
