I almost did Mize, as most of you did.

I actually had typed Mize's name into the sitemail and at the last minute decided to erase it and go a different route. Obviously a good choice.

I went the other direction. Had somebody else already submitted, then changed my mind and sent in the Mize pick as an override. Obviously a bad move.

How do people feel about their teams so far?

Well, I somewhat regret the decision to fall prey to the run on relievers this round when I could still fill some full-time roles in my lineups and rotations. But up until then I'm happy with the guys I've brought on board.

Thanks, HH. Forgive me if I don't check out the draft thread at 4 AM my time. I will be sure to check in the late afternoon, though. This post of yours really helps me.

My good guys should be competitive, despite at least a couple non-catastrophic mistakes.

Pretty wild that so many of the more top-tier, SLB-blessed options are off the table by now. And drafters are quite SLB knowledgeable after all these years.

Still resisting using a speadsheet...

Our going through this process underscores how dumb it is to give MLB players such fat long-term contracts unless they are very heavily incentivized. It's just very rare for even the best players to string together that many great seasons.

See, this is what I'm talking about. I could have had Manny last round and taken any one of the roughly 2 dozen relievers left who are basically equivalent to Rafael Soriano. There's nobody left that's equivalent to Manny.

Good observation about fat, long-term contracts. I guess the problem is, if they want them at all they have to beat what other teams are bidding. So the agents play the owners off each other.

I've been stung 10 time already and my draft board has just about run out. Time to try something else?
