I think it’s tough to argue that the country, as a whole, is somehow less moral now than it was 50/100/200 years ago.
I think it's pretty easy to argue. Just take a look at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
It used to be legal to own black people.
those were the days

i would strike the word black and wish i had me a couple

i'll be needing a beer and that toilet spotless pronto asap stat

Religion is the root of all morality.
Empathy is the root of all morality.
So, you're saying that the majority of the civilizations throughout history didn't make their laws based on their religion and their moral code wasn't dictated by their religion?
What I’m saying is that humans have a natural sense of morality that would exist with or without religion.
And that claim is based on . . . ?
If morality required religion, children would be amoral until they were taught religion. And that’s not the case.

people are two part monkey and one part dog

when we do something good it is a good day for the dog

Morality doesn't necessarily require religion, but every culture has had a driving force that guided their moral compass. Once again, Japan is a predominantly atheist country in which their people take great pride in preserving their name and reputation.

Can you explain why b_l insists on acting like an idiot? Is that the dog or monkey in him . . . or is it maybe some other 3-lettered animal?

What makes you think the country is less moral today than it was in 1800 or 1900 or 1970 or whenever?

THIS is spot on, astute even, if a tad poetic........

None the less.
I agree, if only we behaved as well as dogs................

Some things are just not for explanation............

But dogs generally exhibit more compassion than us (so-called) humans...........not sure about the monkeys.
Let me check my back and get back...............

dog morality discussions might be all about what's the right thing to do when a feline runs through your yard

cat jump the fence

liberal dogs bark, conservative dogs crunch

For the most part I agree with this statement, but unfortunately, not all humans have a natural sense of morality with or without religion. If they did, the world would be a much better place.
Also, I am in no way criticizing religion, but I have known and seen supposedly religious people whose moral code was severely lacking. Of course, I have also seen people who are not religious whose moral code was severely lacking.

I’m taking in generalities. Obviously exceptions—psychopaths, sociopaths, etc.— exist.

The point is that religion doesn’t create morality.
1/3/2019 5:14 PM
Yes, I am talking generalities as well. I just happen to be on the other end of the spectrum and believe that a society with religion will function much better than one without.

so the middle east, they are doin fine

strong religion

weak results is my take but you go head on and defend
