Yes, I am talking generalities as well. I just happen to be on the other end of the spectrum and believe that a society with religion will function much better than one without.
You still haven’t said what makes you think we are less moral than we used to be.

religions can exist together. it's as easy as accepting that you don't know anything for sure.

I'm not going down that road, because I don't have time for a 30+ page circular debate which it will lead to. We'll just accept that I think there has been moral corrosion in the world and you don't think there has.

This doesn’t have to be a big thing. Look, slavery was legal. That’s pretty ******* immoral. Trail of tears, also hugely immoral. Japanese internment. Jim Crow. Women not being able to vote. How we’ve treated native Americans in general. ****, the entire 1950’s culture than made preying on women A-OK. The huge murder rates of the 1970’s.

Today, rates of violent crime and murder are relatively low. Explicit racism, homophobia, and sexism are generally not tolerated. People are encouraged to get away from abusive relationships and supported when they do. We’re probably better-off morally today than at any point in the history of the US.

slavery was not immoral three hundred years ago

it was I let you live you do me right

potential slave is like Ok i wanna live

its a financial agreement between two parties one powerful the other slight

slavery might have been legal 300 years ago, that doesn't mean it was morally right.

Religion is the root of all morality.
Empathy is the root of all morality.
So, you're saying that the majority of the civilizations throughout history didn't make their laws based on their religion and their moral code wasn't dictated by their religion?
What I’m saying is that humans have a natural sense of morality that would exist with or without religion.
And that claim is based on . . . ?
If morality required religion, children would be amoral until they were taught religion. And that’s not the case.
You've shown over and over in these forums that you're pretty dumb, so the fact that you're dumb again here should be no surprise to anybody.

Pretty much every human culture around the planet started with a primitive belief in some sort of higher being, a god/God or gods, that guided or influenced their lives. In most cases, as the cultures matured, those primitive beliefs formalized into some sort of organized religion. Each of those religions codified the laws of their God/gods into a set of "laws" or framework for acceptable or expected behavior, i.e. morals.

I know that you disdain organized religion. Whatever, I really don't care. But you can't deny that religion (or belief in some higher power) and morality have been intertwined since primitive man evolved beyond the ape. And that these beliefs have become ingrained in our genes.

Well, maybe you can deny it. Because you're dumb.

It was tolerated, if not accepted.

Organized religion has added a **** TON of immorality to this world.

there's no denying that either.

What nation or culture, in the history of the world, did not have an organized religion?

Nope. People have twisted doctrines to fit their agendas in the name of religion. The religion didn't add it. Evil people did.

Religion was created specifically to help certain people fulfill their agendas.

All of them?

And is it simply faith based on something you can't prove?

I was going to thank strikeout for correcting b_l, but at the last second noticed it wasn't b_l who posted the original garbage. I guess it's no longer safe to assume everything that stupid comes from b_l.
