16x16 vs 24 - Draft - MLB123836 Topic

I'd say doubtful, but not impossible, especially since you have to budget for the salaries of the 9 teammates. There's no guarantee that there will be 9 $200K guys available among the teammates of the drafted players, so the maximum for drafted players is more in the $116M - $117M range.

Currently, if good_beef could "got stuck" with the highest remaining salaried players forced on him (i.e., 2nd highest available salary for a player with 17 seasons, 3rd highest for a player with 18 seasons, etc.), he'd be at roughly $119M with no teammates yet.

But he could go higher than $119M, because he could take a higher salary than I calculated. For example, there are 17 eligible Myatt seasons. So the highest salary that he can be forced to take is 1925 season ($2.7 million), which is the second highest. But he could "choose" to draft the 1924 season ($4.1 million).

I don't want to draft again for a while.

Once again, at work...can someone SM for me?
You may only drop 2 spots in the draft order.

I don't think I've ever done a draft where I second guessed myself more, and we're only 3 picks in. I make each pick with what I believe is sound reasoning, then 5 minutes later I'm like WTF did I do?????

Agreed. Because some people appear to be posting picks with confidence and plan, right?

This is undoubtedly the most difficult league on WIS. It's so much fun but a big time commitment to get right. I always follow along but rarely play due to other time commitments.

You're supposed to feel that way. As I believe I've said in previous iterations, these types of drafts are exquisite agony. So much fun, and yet so much pain.

I wouldn't have it any other way.

I thought the rules change might help this game, but it's only made the "poison pills" more toxic. I'd like to try 4x4 with no salary cap and a maximum salary of $15mm to find out if strategies other than saving salary would be employed.

I'm always tweaking the rules each version, to try different things. I've already thought about some tweaks for the next version... but let's see how this plays out before I comment on any potential changes to the next version.

At first glance, I thought that removing one pitcher slot and adding the ninth hitter would make things a little easier as pitchers are usually the bigger headache. But as the pitching slot eliminated was a RP and there is no DH in this version, that hasn't been the case at all. The number of (nearly) useless nominated players hasn't helped either. This may be the most challenging version yet.
