He seems like just a tad below desired ratings across the pitching categories. If he plays in a team with a bad defense (range and errors), that would compound everything. Would also depend on his home stadium. Is an offensive park, neutral or pitchers' park?

He's been with five different ML teams and been pretty consistently bad with them all.
I don't think this guy is a stud, but I would have expected better than what he's done.

60's for Control and both splits, no out pitch for the #1 and no 5th pitch means mediocre at best. His numbers don't surprise me that much.

By ratings I make him about half a run worse than league average; his most important ratings are below ML average. He's always pitched in the DH league, and his average park is about neutral; in a typical world with an average defense that'll make his ERA around 5, which is what his career ERA is.

What you see is what you get; you won't be able to work miracles with pitch counts. Better be a damn good prospect; you're paying $37.8M for him.

Must be some serious competition for pitching in that league, that that player got that contract.

Fortunately, I'm not paying him - but was considering the deal. He would have to be somewhat serviceable however. I can find a Rule 5 to go out and lose every 5th day.

That $12.5m contract makes me sad.

That's exactly what that guy should be, a Rule 5.

Id expect with a good def to have him a low 1.4 whip possibly high 1.3 if he had a pull rating to leave him in coupled with a good def. He is below average in my opinion in control and splits, velocity and groundball. He would need to have outstanding pitches or control, vr,or vl in the high 80's to make up for his shortcomings. He is a great mop up guy due to his stamina and durability. FYI the clipboard worked.
