And yes, they should be memorialized. Memorialized simply means "to have a memory of". The definition is in the root word. By not memorializing them, we essentially erase them from history. This is the left's objective and it's dangerous.
Incorrect. They are still in history books. But buildings should not be named after them. There should be no statues of them. That's an honor that traitors don't deserve.

Should we build statues of the 9/11 attackers in Manhattan? Never forget, right? Need to be memorialized.

In this case 'memorialize' means literal statues.

Methinks you took the definition a bit too literally.

We need a statue of Timothy McVeigh in Oklahoma City.
We need to have a statue of Stalin in Russia
We need to have a statue of Custer and a statue of Jackson on Indian Reservations
We need a statue of John Wayne Gasy in Illinois.

Otherwise we forget that the OKC bombing, communism, brutality against Indians, and murder ever happened.

Didn't Custer lose the battle of LBH? In OKC you can put a monument to memorialize the victims. Stalin statues were taken down. JWG is a random SK.

I think we need to find why certain statues were erected and then have local communities vote to: keep/modify/move/destroy.

When Virginia declared its secession from the Union in April 1861,Lee chose to follow his home state, despite his desire for the country to remain intact and an offer of a senior Union command. During the first year of the Civil War, Lee served as a senior military adviser to Confederate President Jefferson Davis.

He was indeed a traitor but had the South won he would have been deemed a hero. Sons of Liberty were "traitors" too. Victors always write history.
Victors always write history.

I agree with you.

In Tucson is a statue of Poncho Villa on his steed. It's been gelded.

What about Peru's statue of Jesus? Could be deemed offensive?
1/30/2019 4:00 PM
I mean, maybe. Anything could be offensive to anyone. That's kinda dumb and I don't want it removed.

EXACTLY! LOL!

What you find "kinda dumb" but really care about...I at times find "kinda dumb".

OK Debate over. What is the next topic?

Very few people are offended by your correlation. I'm sure there are uneducated extremists who would be, but that's the fringe. Multitudes of leftists are offended by statues, logos, posters, (fill in the blank) all the time. This is where the difference lies.
Dude...PLENTY of conservatives have massive fringe beliefs and are offended by trite bullshit. It's not a left/right issue. America as a WHOLE has become overly PC and FAR too many people are afraid of ACTUAL US history. If I were offended by a statue, I'd probably choose to teach my kid who the statue was of and the circumstances of why a statue was at one time erected and how it bears on our history. I would make it a moment to teach why it should offend. To educate on our history. To rise above what we once were. Not to deny its existence. Burying your head in sand doesn't make the "bad stuff" go away.

Crap, I agree with rsp. There must be a lunar eclipse.

Any chance the next debate could be about college safe spaces?

I'm not sure what you're arguing against with me here other than which side gets more offended. I agree with you both sides have gone soft and get their feelings hurt over the most trivial of things. As far as the rest of the post, this is almost exactly what I said in my initial post to start the topic. I even talked about using it as a teaching tool for my children. We are in agreement.

Yes. We all agree. Debate over. Next topic please, sir.
