That is how it should work. If you assault a police officer you should be arrested or ticketed...talking about a traffic stop violation. These are the only engagements I have had with police officers.

What do you mean by retort?
If you call them an A Hole expect a ticket and if you assault them expect to be arrested. If you are polite expect to have them be polite back to you and maybe give you a warning or nothing.
Not the way it works. I can tell cop he's a stupid ******* pig who ***** donuts and eats it and he can't do anything.
Only in your mind. I respectfully disagree and you don’t need the word “wait” to begin your posts.
You don't get to respectfully disagree on freedom of speech.

Cops deserve respect but, like you and me, they aren't legally protected from insults. Anyone can say anything to a cop that they can legally say to anyone else (with the exception of material lies under oath). The cops can't arrest you or ticket you for being an *******.
If he pulls you over and you say. “******* why did your fat *** pull me over?”. The cop gives you a ticket and then you complain to your wife that you didn’t deserve it. This is what I mean.

he owed it to the public to get in front of that long before it surfaced.
he committed fraud upon the public to have ignored it and then lied about it.
how can a doctor allow it.....
to me the man is a good old boy buffoon...his party is irrelevant.......if he was a raqcist and changed he should have been honest at thebeginning of public service.

25 is too old to allow for youth excuse.

this is a new issue for the future...public servants should resign if they cover up or omit from full disclosure things like this.

Your holier than thou line of thinking is at best troubling.

You can call him and ******* and a fat *** and all he can legally do is ticket you for whatever infraction he pulled you over for. He can't give you an additional ticket for name calling or arrest you for name calling.

Assault is different from insult or disrespect.
Verbal assault is assault. Battery is hitting them. If you are guilty of battery then you’re putting your life in your hands. Assault is a disrespectful threat.

I agree but my point is we should treat them with respect and if we do they will likely respond in kind. In this specific example you may not get a ticket. At all times we should treat law officers with respect.

Warning. Stick to the topic. Not ad Hominems. People who
make mistakes at 25 should be forgiven if they apologize and illustrate that they have changed their ways IMO.

Assault is the threat of actual harm, not an insult. Insults are protected speech.

No one is talking about threats. You're moving the goalposts.

Obviously, it's illegal to threaten a cop. It's not illegal to call them stupid fat ******* pigs.

Everyone should treat everyone with respect.

I'd argue that cops should treat the public with respect first and foremost, since they are the ones empowered by the government to enforce laws.

**and I'm not arguing that cops aren't respectful, every cop I've ever interacted with has been very respectful. But obviously some aren't and some aren't able to keep their cool when dealing with disrespectful people. They should. It's their job.

I provided a specific quote of what I meant. No goal post movement. Feel free to read the posts and see for yourself. My bigger point is that we should treat law officers with respect and expect the same from them. 99% are good people who want to help us.

maybe depending on what they did...his apology was tied in with non credible denials and lies.....so it was a insufficient apology..if i was talking about some accountant ..yeah i might be holier then holy.
it is different when you are talking about high public servants.
