Next topic: Formal education
I will go into more detail a little later, but to get the topic rolling I will start with this. With the exception of a few science related fields, formal education in its career state is completely useless. With today's technology and resources, I can learn everything for free that would cost me a minimum of $80 grand in college.
Apprenticeships are a lost art. They are well more beneficial than classroom learning.
Like I say, I will go into more detail later, but lets hear your opinions on the subject.
1) I agree on apprenticeships. I learned more doing that than anything I learned in school.
2) I still think formal education is valuable. While I agree that most people are able to learn just as well at home (although I have concerns about the impoverished) it's still a good thing to be in a classroom, interacting w/ teachers and students. It's like me saying, "I have a Bible at home, and I can listen to a church sermon online, so what's the point of actually going to church?"
3) I think formal education should be more personalized at a younger age. I love what schools (at least in Kansas) are starting to do now by using 'career pathways' at a younger age. I don't see much need for core classes after 7/8th grade, when most kids know what they like and what they don't.
