Why should they get the majority of it? The people who produce the most at Apple don't get the majority of Apple's revenues. That is not how business works.
Because Apple employees aren’t the product.

Professional sports are different from regular buinsesses.
This is incorrect. The game is the product. The players produce the product.

You also didn't mention the fact that Aaron Judge was given 1.8M for signing his name on a piece of paper.
He was a first round pick. Do you think he would have received more or less if he had been able to negotiate freely with all teams instead of only being able to sign with the team that drafted him?
Based on the IFA market, probably less. Those guys are free to negotiate with all 30 teams. Acuna signed for $100,000.
Bullshit.

He would have made more. And you know it. Acuna was an unimpressive 16 year old. Lucius Fox signed for $6m as a raw 18 year old from the DR. Adrian Morejon signed for $11m as a 16 year old pitcher from Cuba.

Theres no way that a draft produces higher bonuses than free agency. The entire point of it is to keep costs down.

No one’s paying to see my ****** Sunday league team play. The players ARE the game.

I'll let you have that one. I haven't paid attention to IFA signing bonuses much.

If you really want to push to your argument, why not talk about the minor league player that is making $20,000/year instead of the level where guys are averaging over $4M/year.
Oh don’t even get me started on the slave labor that is the minor leagues.
They have the option not to play. They aren't being forced to do anything. They sign into a consensual agreement where they know the terns prior to joining.
Can Major League Baseball exist in its current form without minor league players?
For sure. I've always thought there were too many levels and too many rounds in the draft. MiLB games are a bunch of guys that really have no prayer of making the big leagues.
It can’t. It needs the development. Almost all draft picks need seasoning in the minors before they can play at the major league level. The league needs those org guys that have no prayer to maintain its primary product.

Incorrect again. The product is the game. The players produce the product. If the player's produce a ****** product, no one is watching.

Once again, using apple as the example. Apple thrives because the people producing the product produce a quality product. If they didn't it wouldn't sell. No one is watching your Sunday league team play because in comparison to the MLB, you produce a ****** product. You are not the product. The game is.

The difference in sports is that we get to see the product being produced first hand.

Whe players strike in the near future, will the product be the same?

Because if all of Apple’s engineers walk away, we probably won’t notice.

If your question was referring to not having a MiLB system at all, then yeah it needs a minor league system. It doesn't need 5+ MiLB levels.

That is irrelevant to my original point. Each individual still has the option not to sign a deal. They enter a consensual agreement for the small amount they make. No one is forcing them to sign the deal.

For sure we would notice if all of Apple's engineers walked away. It would be in every news headline because it would be a big deal and their product would more than likely take a hit.

It’s an impossible hypothetical, but there’s a reason that Apple engineers make 6 figures and open market MLB players make 7.

Players are the product but sports is designed to have cheaper younger talent compensate for more expensive veterans. True in all sports. Kyler Murray got $4mil as a signing bonus.

It’s only that way because of the CBA. MLB players traded higher salaries as young players for jackpot salaries for players that make it to FA.

Now that those jackpots are essentially going away, there’s going to be a change.

For sure, there is a reason. The market has determined that there are more people who can produce Apple's product at a high level than there are people who can produce MLB's product at a high level. The best of the best in the MLB are in greater demand. The last two winter cycles have proven this. The market has shifted and GM's are deciding that they can get enough production for much cheaper than what the premium player's are demanding.

Which is fine. Let the owners and players hash it out.

I'm okay with changing the compensation format for players. I think it's good for the market if they are giving more negotiating power earlier in their career. This still doesn't ensure them more money in the long term and I still don't believe that they are entitled to the majority of the revenue.
