There's a reason I don't read them, and every time you repost one it reminds me just how scary it is to have such idiots be freely expressing their opinions where impressionable young people can actually see them. The future of this Country is scary enough without such lunacy being seen more than once.

I was just going to say that tang was not familiar with the Dutch East India Company. There really hasn't been, and probably never will be again, a business quite like those guys. Amazon is child's play by comparison.

It was also a government-endorsed monopoly. I think that's important to note in this discussion.

Is China really communist?

For a while I have been under the impression that they are communist in name only. But they have gigantic companies there.

The Chinese companies you are (probably) referring to are state-owned.

My sister-in-law lives there. She is actually at my house now as she flew in to visit because she is a teacher and the kids are out of school right now. I will get her take on everything chinese related. From my understanding, they are more free market in business than we are, but outside of that their freedoms are heavily restricted. They definitely don't have freedom of religion and they are definitely a surveillance state. It is a very dangerous country because of government intrusion and not a place that I care to ever live.

Honestly, China is probably one of the better examples of why limited government is better.

So...my attempt to define China would be a unitary, totalitarian oligarchy. The best I can do.

But it does matter. My point is that I don't want the bulk of the power in the hands of the government. See Thomas Jefferson quote.

If a company is state run and corrupt, it proves my point.

Yes, because power will then corrupt the businesses and smaller governments.

No, you can't limit the amount of power available. With a limited government you spread the power. I am not aware of any case in history where a business became tyrannical. Maybe someone can prove me wrong on this, but I have never heard or read about such a thing.
