Matt Kuchar Topic

I don't really follow golf much, but found this story somewhat interesting. Matt Kuchar, a pro golfer won a tournament last year. His regular caddie was unavailable, so he hored a local. Before the tournament, they came to an agreement that Kuchar would pay the caddie $1000 if he missed the cut, $2000 if he made the cut, $3000 if he finished in the top 20, and $4000 if he finished in the top 10. He won the tournament, and gave the guy $5000. Kuchar won $1.3 million for the tournament. Apparently is it fairly standard to give the caddie a 10% fee if you win. Kuchar says he does not feel at all bad about the amount he gave the caddie and the $5000 for a weeks work is pretty good money. A lot of his fellow golf pros seem to feel he should have given the guy more. Technically, he followed the agreement he made with caddie plus gave him an extra $1000. The caddie says Kuchar didn't do anything wrong, but it would have been nice get some sort of bonus. I kind of agree with the caddie. What do you think?

He should give the caddie the standard rate.

$150,000

5 % to his regular caddie and 5 % to the lucky caddie.

I can see not giving a substitute caddie to same 10% he would give his regular caddie, but half of that (5% or $65,000) seems much more in-line with what's "deserved" than $5,000.

Just give the caddie the normal rate.

why should his regular caddie get anything? He couldn't make the tournament.

The replacement caddie got a 25% bonus worth about six months salary in his country.

what does that have to do with anything

what baggie said. I almost can go along with "that's the agreement they made' but the its a lot of money ib his country is bullshit

Kuchar paid up. 50k to the replacement guy.

still not 10% but better than $5000. And he only did it because of bad publicity, not because he felt he owed it to the guy

Yeah, that's what is pulling at me with this. They did agree to the amount, but if it was me personally I for sure would be giving the guy more than $5k. I guess Kuchar wasn't necessarily wrong in paying the agreed to amount, but I don't feel it was the right choice.

Thought I heard somewhere that Kuchar (in addition to the 5K) offered the caddie an extra 15K but the caddie declined to take it. Anyone else hear about this?

I heard that too
