Silliness. When you talk about 200k players, it's just how you use them. And so as bagchucker implied, if the 200k player helped the winning team, and the 200k player hurt the losing team, yes, the 200k player on the winning team was worth more.

I *think* the discussion of the $200k player is a joke, but I'm not 100% sure...

Agreed. In theory, a player's salary should adjust until it hits its "sweetspot". It should continue to climb until usage drops, then it should taper off, settling at something of a true value.

Also, they need to sort out what leagues they count. A player being drafted in high-cap leagues should not be used to drive up their salary.
I actually don't think we'd ever reach equilibrium / sweetspots for each player, because how a player is perceived at a given price -- his value -- is not dependent just on his price, but also the prices of all other, comparable players, which would also be constantly changing.

The second point is a really good one though. There would be multiple ways to approach it (i.e. different sets of salaries, weighted impact of a selection based on league cap, etc.) but it's a tough problem and probably outside the scope of the resources they have right now.

We could all draft the same 200k player, use him similarly or differently, get same or much different results. From a guy with 50-70 PA. None will likely see him make a huge impact on their team. Not from a bench/spot start role player...if he lights it up you are lucky to get 20 RBI, and/or a handful of + plays. Perhaps his biggest contribution is giving the starter a breather...not like the old days, when a then 200k 1927 Art Decatur threw a no-hitter, and held his own for 100+ innings...

The use of $200k type guys is a separate topic from the issue of why dynamic pricing in the form now truncated was implemented. True dynamic pricing would be a boon to the WIS site, it just wasn't implemented correctly. Even as it stands today, it updated the site. Like most of the "old timers", we use low cost players to provide our starters with a breather. then we hold our own breath and hope they aren't atrocious.

I'm sure they can fix the salaries, they just need to get it done. I've warned them that players are fleeing due to boredom...there's plenty of other games to play elsewhere. ..

So coincidentally I have '27 Decatur on my roster in a Random Pages league, and he's a $1.23M player now. His performance history only shows 2 uses, but clearly that's not likely accurate if you're referencing him like that. Also, his salary history has been kind of flat with tiny reductions at each update. How did he get from 200K to 1.2M, and how long ago?

Several versions ago, there were lots of SPs with terrible stats that were 200K and got used excessively simply because they were essentially free innings, even if they sucked. Decatur isn't one of those names I remember, but I can see that being the case with him looking at those stats. But you definitely saw lots of Dupee Shaw and Sugar Cain around in those days. But this was quite some time ago.

Performance history doesn't go that far back.

We are about 6 months since they loaded the 2018 players to the database. At that time we were told that dynamic pricing was on hold until a review was done...

I sent in a ticket today for a status update...reply forthcoming. ..

Will the patient bleed to death on the table??? That was my question to them. Not joking...

Dynamic salaries are still on hold indefinitely. Several flaws were pointed out to us, and until we can review the process, it will be on hold. I can't say when that might be done. Thanks.

Thanks for playing on WhatIfSports.

Adjust pricing once per year, right after the MLB season ends and the recent players from that season. Are added into the mix. WIS had been adjusting salaries like every 4 months for a while and that was overkill. Once per season seems reasonable and a great cutoff point is when the latest season of MLB players are added.
