What are the various circumstances for Simmy to auto-release a player in-season? I think one is to free up cash, although that would require someone picking him up...

The only one I know of is ten consecutive real life days of being unassigned.

Am I missing something or has Shane Harper really under performed in his career? He doesn't have any great pitches but 4 of his five are good. His VsR isn't stellar but again, is serviceable. Every time I look at his ratings I don't see any glaring weaknesses but yet he consistently seems to be closer to 4 in the ERA category every year rather then 3.

Guys will have up and down seasons. You could try tandems where he comes in directly after one of your righties. But, right now it is small sample size.

I do wonder if the simmy gives a player a +25/-25 percent ratings boost in order to implement a players career year or down year. If you look at any player card that has been playing in MLB for ten or more years, you will usually see one huge season where he outperforms his ratings and one season where he is absolutely underperforming his ratings.

Actually this is brilliant. I had totally forgot about Tandeming my lefties with a rightie from my bullpen that is pull 5 with a 40/40 PC to give them a little more boost. Thanks for the reminder.

1. Is he having a good year, bad year or typical year?
2. Was he on a team with a below average defense or a team with a defensively focused team?
3. What stadium did he pitch his games in?

No I know but with me I put pitching and defense as a premium. Pretty much a guy should be at an ERA below 3 for my SP's or they are useless to me. (SD is a very pitchers park, I usually have 4-5 SS on my squad plus I try to be above average in defence up the middle) So the fact he is closer to 4 is just shocking to me.

Morgan Berkman looks to be a very good hitter and I'll either bring him up this season when expansion happens or next season, but I can't justify putting him anywhere...... maybe RF VsL pitching. Moreso I was thinking 7th inning or later if I need someone on base. Has anyone done this before?

Edit:He has a durability under 40. I guess the occasional pinch hit is all he is capable of without collapsing.

The 25th guy on a roster is generally a floater, IMO. A defensive emergency guy who gets less than 100 ABs, or a RP with less than 50 innings. That guy would at least not waste the 100 ABs.

Yes, I do that. He could pinch hit, then go out to right field for an inning or two.

We're heading toward the end of the season and I have a guy in the last year of his deal who I want to re-sign, and who is open to re-signing now. But because of future payroll limits, I can't structure the deal the way I would prefer.

Will he still be willing to re-sign after rollover, when he's just days from becoming a free agent? Has a 90 patience rating.

For a 90 patience rating you SHOULD be ok. Its never a sure thing though. Look it as picking a number at random between 1 and 100, if the number is in the first 90 he will sign, if the number is 91-100 he won't sign.

His overall rating factors into the equation too. The higher the overall the less likely to resign.

I would never roster this guy in the regular season for an NL team. I'd rather platoon at some other position or carry someone who can keep my starters rested. He's not a good enough bat, even against LHP, to merit the slot. IN the AL he's a solid but not spectacular platoon DH, and could be my 25th man on the right roster.

Now, in the playoffs, when I cut back to 10 or maybe even 9 pitchers? Absolutely.

This is a discussion that MikeT would have loved to be part of. A lot of schools of thought here. He still has 3 options.
