I've read the hoops 101, but what differences have you all experienced b/w Flex/Motion/Triangle ? Do you recruit differently or gamelan differently? Does opponent set (F/M/T) change the way you plan against?

Just not sure I've observed any real difference b/w them... But then again I'm not all that observant

The differences aren’t so great that they can’t be ignored, and I would say most ignore them. We don’t all agree exactly where the differences are, either. IMO, where there are differences, it’s usually just a matter of degrees. Ballhandling matters in all sets. It’s slightly more important in FB and motion. Passing matters in all sets. It’s slightly more important in triangle and flex.

Personally, I think the physical attributes are where the biggest differences are; absolutely vital for FB at the top end, a bit less so for triangle at the bottom, but it’s relatively important for all (moreso on the defensive side, though, IMO).

i've seen successful 'flex' off coaches do more paint scoring than perimeter scoring, though i try to recruit excellent perimeter/pass players for my flex offense

This is something I have been thinking about a lot lately too. I feel my knowledge of basketball IRL sometimes gets in the way of WIS HD. Triangle teams have a "Center" and "Post." That isn't to say that they don't allow for great perimeter scoring, obviously Jordan was a prolific scorer for Phil during his Bulls years running the triangle, but typically the Triangle works best if you have a Center with a back to the basket game who can really carve out space.

Motion is almost to broad of a term because you could run 3 around 2 motion (horns sets) 4 around 1 motion (more of today's modern NBA dribble/drive) or even 5 out motion. I think the game somewhat accounts for that if you were to put your center at +2 for 3pt shooting he takes more 3s and therefore has to be beyond the 3 point line. However, is he setting a back screen to send somebody else to the rim and then popping out? Is he setting pick and pop ball screens?

I would consider myself a very new player, currently in my 17th season, but I didn't really research or know what I was doing at all until maybe 5 seasons ago. I'd love to see "little" adjustments (I'm not a software guy so maybe they aren't so little) like the ability to set a free throw lineup. You know at the end of games when you expect the other team to start fouling you and you put your 5 best ft shooters into the game. Also a 3pt shooting lineup got late game situations. Even a defensive lineup for after a made buckey late in the game and you take a time out to set your defense to get 1 more stop. The computer coach very rarely utilizes timeouts. Most of the time both teams end the game with 3+ time outs remaining. Even stuff where the other team goes on a 12-0 run, those types of situations 90% of college coaches are going to call a timeout to break momentum, get subs in for matchups, call a play to give your team a different look, etc...

That is something I can do fun research in spare time on. My basketball knowledge is a little rusty and I think I have the ability to make those differences work.

I only speak for my team and the short amount of time I've been there, but most of my success in the flex has been with per heavy teams. Not necessarily great shooters but much better than my lp scorers.
