I met him once when I was younger. It would have been towards the end of his career or maybe shortly after he retired. He seemed genuinely surprised I knew who he was which I always thought was kind of cool.

I was born and raised in NC. Was always UNC fan but I remember Thurl from the NC State team that won National Champ in 83.
