My favorite bar bet that has won me many beers is "How many times did Ted Williams get 200 or more hits in a season?"

The answer is none. One of the greatest pure hitters of all time never did it - he walked too much.

Consecutive seasons - Nolan Ryan (1968-1993). If you count pre-1876, then it's Cap Anson (1871-1897).

According to this B-R page, Williams hit at least .333 in every month, though Mar/Apri and Sept/Oct are combined so maybe that's the issue with him. Maybe he didn't do it in March or October?

Cobb also at least .335 each month and Hornsby at least .342, but the same combination thing going on. I'm wondering if someone has those March and October breakdowns. I need to stop looking at B-R pages ...

Hey, you wanna do another Silver King-ish league?

We could use any 500+ arm. Thoughts?

Or a 1/2a/2b league, no other pitchers are allowed to start a game. A Grizzly_one type, really skimp on innings...hehe. A battle to not drown a bullpen.

I'm waiting for someone to come along and break my Ed Seward's OL wins record of 78. Then I'll spring back into action!

this reminds me of one of my favorites "How many 50 HR seasons did Barry Bonds have?"

most of us may know the answer is just ONE because we've all had him on SIM teams, but that number is absolutely baffling to the casual fan

I also think it's a trickier question than asking the same about Gehrig, who much more famously never hit 50 but got stuck on 49 twice

The first time I won HQ sports, the final question was "Who is the only MLB player in history with a 20 HR/50 SB season AND a 50 HR/20 SB season?

Alex Rodriguez
Barry Bonds
Brady Anderson

Brady Anderson!

Of course, ha, but it knocked out a TON of people guessing Rodriguez or Bonds.
