28 Guys During Rollover Topic

I've got 30 guys on my ML roster and 28 guys that aren't FA. What will happen during rollover when I need to cut down to 25 guys?

Nothing until opening day. It'll demote a bunch of guys on opening day if you don't fix the problem.

Hopefully you put everyone on revokable waivers before the end of the season so that they replenish their option years
foster - can you expand on this? are you saying if they make it through waivers it doesn't decrease their option years by 1?

If they clear waivers they get 3 minor league options, 2 after rollover

interesting, i just assumed options in HBD worked the same as real life. i'll have to look into this.

I just had a player clear revocable waivers with no options left. He's in AAA. Season rolls over in three days. Are you saying all the players I had clear revocable waivers will get one option back? This particular player will go from 0 options left to 1?

I doubt it

We rolled. As I suspected, none of my players "replenished" options because of clearing waivers. HBD waivers indeed seem to work the same as real life waivers.

Options exist so you can't bury a major league player in your minors indefinitely as backup, without exposing him to waivers so the rest of the league can claim his rights. Once a player gets onto the 40 he has three option years to go up and down between the minors and majors. While he's on the 40 in the minors it ticks down. If he gets to the majors and doesn't go back down it stays where it is. There's no mechanism to get an option back. If a player's clock stops, it's because he's in the majors, no other reason that I know of.

Whenever I mass-waive I get options back, maybe there's an explanation for the one guy you're referencing but I am quite confident in what I am seeing every season

My Texas league just rolled, most of my guys have 2 options--
Player Profile: Mike Prinz
Player Profile: Bob Trujillo
Player Profile: Marty Lloyd

You guys don't think that magically happens on its own, right?

You are way over thinking it. All three of these guys sit at 2 options because they were in the majors all season. Option seasons are only burned up when you are on the 40-man and spend time in the minors. There is no tricky math or waiver clearance tricks.

I see nothing has changed over the past year and a half with pj offering horribly bad advice in the forums.
