Looking for recruiting tips and advice
We used to share a conference in Wooden. Hit me up if you'd like. Mainly for D2

I'd also be willing to help, if you want DI advice.

Im division 3....If I'm on a recruit vs.a d2 sim team, should I get out now and move on to another prospect since it's only the first cycle?

If a higher division team, human or SIM, is on a recruit early, I usuallly move on. There is always a chance you could get land him but the more likely result is pouring a bunch of attention points who signs with a higher division team.

Depends on the prestige of the DII Sim. You can still win, but be prepared to go All-in or close to it.

And remember, once a Sim is at "Very Low," it's done trying.

If his signing preference is “Late”, you’re in the game with him. During RS1, you can unlock everything with APs, offer a scholarship, and promised minutes and starts (if you wish), but DO NOT spend any money on him in RS1.

If a higher level human gets on him with a scholarship at any point, it’s time to bail.

If you get to RS2 with no higher level humans on him with a scholarship, then you can start offering the HV and CVs. Just be aware of the risk of somebody coming late to the party and taking him away from you.

it's hard to give advice for recruiting for D1. first off, it's completely unpredictible. no matter what you do, it's usually a coin flip for the recruit. higher prestige teams can come in a grab a recruit at any moment, and A prestige teams can run all over other teams. you can go days pouring in attn pts and visits and promises, and then a higher prestige team can walk in one cycle before signigns and scoop the guy up, leaving you with no cash and little options. my best advice is this - if you are new and not emotionally invested yet in this, then don't bother. Sim baseball is fun. but HD is a complete trainwreck disaster. spend your money elsewhere. hard drugs, prostitutes, ANYTHING is a better idea.

Wow. Horrible advice.

"Coin flip" is used way too often in these forums to denigrate recruiting. Recruiting us all about positioning yourself, understanding and accepting risk that money spent on a recruit does not guarantee a payoff, and planning for backup options.

Building a successful program is an incremental process. It will take time to build the prestige to attract better recruits over time. The journey to get to that point is very different than maintaining a successful program, and brings it's own rewards.

I second that. Gigrant might have just given the worst advice ever during human existence.

Losing out on a recruit and being frustrated is one thing, but the amount that people trash HD and complain is weird to me.

This rant is off base on numerous levels.

In the current Tark recruiting cycle, my B- Pepperdine team beat A- UNLV for a three star SG. A few seasons ago my C+ Pepperdine team beat A+ Duke for a four star international SF.

Sometimes the underdog wins. More often as the underdog you'll get rejected, but you learn a little and you try again.

All this means to me, is that he just had a recruit ripped away from him that he was really excited about. His 200ish HD seasons tell me he'll be here to continue trying. No one plays 200 seasons and dedicates the amount of time needed, on something that's a trainwreck.

Having said that, I'm not sure how exactly how i feel about the main concept of this rant. About high prestige teams walking in and taking a recruit. I'm a believer that if a high profile school such as UK wants a player (in comparison to a lesser school), they should get them. In real life, that's the way it works.

But this game tries to level the playing field somewhat for the little guy. So with that being said, i think there should be more value added for a school that's been on a recruit since the beginning. Maybe make AP worth a little more to balance this out. I do think the high prestige power house schools should win recruits fairly easily. And at an extremely high rate. But not in the manner of one/two cycle steals when another school has been there for 20 cycles.

I don't have the answer that I'm looking for, and my suggestion may not be the best/right one. But again, I'm in favor of high prestige schools winning often. But time invested could be worth more than it is.

Generally, the prestige range is a little less than 2 full letter grades. So if everything else is equal - same preferences, same effort, same attention, same promises - a B level team can get into range on basically any recruit (with possible exceptions of the A+++ D1 teams like UCLA in Phelan). Getting in range gives you a chance. Of course, getting closer to very high consideration gives you a better chance.

You don’t need 12 superstars to compete. 1 or 2 stars on a solid team of competent role players with good IQ can compete with anyone. The more stars the better, but you don’t need to field unrealistic teams full of only future NBA players to feel like you have a chance in D1 anymore.

Take calculated risks. You have to shoot for guys who appear “out of your league” sometimes to move up, just be sure you take risks that have a shot at payoff. Find good preference matches. Target players you have reason to believe higher level teams may not want to deeply invest in, ie players with flaws. Don’t despair losing a battle or 3, just plan for some contingencies. A single recruit battle is not “the game”. The game is what you can do with what you’re able to bring in.

"I think there should be more value added for a school that's been on a recruit since the beginning."

This already exists if you're willing to make promises to wants-to-play guys. Broader-scale "considering credit" in earlier versions of the game basically prevented battles, and 3.0 did a good thing by all but eliminating it.
