i think the OP made a pretty good play and just didn't get rewarded for it. that is just how it goes sometimes, i get the frustration. i definitely disagree he did something dumb or whatever, in going for the guy - i mean basically he took his shot and based on everything within his control, was winning. with 3 openings, running flex/man, its a fine time to gamble.
the mistake is to go into these scenarios expecting the coin to flip your way - fine to play the odds, but you have to be clear headed about your odds of losing, just like anything else. i wonder if perhaps whichever team won, showed up late or something - which i could see as being more frustrating - but also is something that should be expected with lower prestige on a top flight player.
bottom line, it was a good attempt with an unfortunate outcome. i suspect the OP is suffering more from a build-up of frustrations than from angst over this single scenario, but who knows. OP, i think you actually did a good job here and in the long run will get rewarded for this kind of stuff. hopefully a few days of cooling off makes you want to take another bite at the apple, because its not that often to see a C prestige school in the lead on a guy like that, so you obviously did something right.
I won a 5-star, #11 overall, #1 rated SG at Robert Morris. Robert Morris is in Pittsburgh and the kid was from Mississippi. I knew basically any of the local SEC teams or some of the eastern Big 12 teams could have come in at any time and raided him, especially considering he had no preference for the distance from home. I got out to an early lead and slow played him a bit, expecting one of the SEC schools to come in. Auburn did try to make a little run, but never really made a big push. I consider myself very lucky for signing him, never really expected to win him anyway. When you're at one of the schools that are not in the top six conferences, you kind of have to accept your fate. You have to know that you could still lose him. I've lost out on a few myself where I was very high, but I dusted myself off and found some other recruit. Just gotta have a backup in case that big fish doesn't come through.
