what did I do wrong here? Should have cruised to a championship

No such thing as “cruised to a championship”, so the place I’d start is expectations.

You picked a good team, but definitely not invincible. A bit slow for a FB/press team that wants to be elite - no elite speed, your guards are mostly mid-70s and top out at 81. Likewise, no elite ball-handlers. I don’t know if it made a difference, but playing with 11 didn’t help; good team stamina, but the guy you redshirted would have probably helped.

Hey ab,
Wondering what your Loyalty rating is? It must be at D-minus or F. Or does taking a season off reset it back to a B or higher? Does it affect recruiting in a significant way?

You are not cruising into anything in the D2 worlds I play in but you do have an amazing team.

I only looked at the final game, but I'd have played that team higher than a +1, especially with a press. He shot 3s on ~45% of his FGAs, and at a good enough percentage (37%) that a good day beats you. And his PG and team-wide BH was good, so you weren't going to force as many TOs as normal...

B-. I get bored far too easily. Need to go back to staying at one school and not leaving HD every other year. Doesn’t affect recruiting as far as I can see

That’s one of the better d2 rosters I’ve seen. Is winning with FB/FCP much harder? I’ve never really run it. The only guy I recruited was the redshirted one, so I can’t take any credit for the roster, just the flop.

Anybody have a prime example of a current FB/FCP juggernaut at D2/1?

And appreciate the insight so far. Thank you.

In Naismith, my Abilene Christian teams from season 90-104 were very good, 8 E8s and 3 titles in those 15 seasons. Off the top of my head, those teams were typically in the 70+ ath, 65 speed, 70+ defense, 80+ stamina range, with top 5 ball handling. The key thing that separated the elite years from the good years was the presence of elite upperclassmen speed/BH guards, 85+ in one or both. I don’t remember ever redshirting anyone in that period. Those teams had high stamina (typically closer to 85 than 80), but even the last couple guys on the bench got 10-12 minutes. I ran uptempo *a lot*.

Even then, I think there were 2 or 3 times when I had pretty clearly the best team in the country, and we were still upset by a rough sim, or just ran into another great team that happened to match up really well. Even the undefeated season 99, we beat everyone by 8+ points I think, but the NT was still nerve racking, because I knew upsets are always possible.

This has nothing to do with the NT loss, but your CT loss was on you. The ONLY way you lose to a SIM as a 25 pt favorite is trying to run FB/FCP at fast tempo and risk either foul trouble or fatigue (ie the only two ways you lose to that team).

Seems as if some have already opened this thought, in a lot more evil way than i will! But ab90, why do you constantly switch teams? And only take title teams that someone else built? I'm really just curious. Wouldn't it be more gratifying if all your titles came from something you built yourself? I guess everyone has their reasons.....

Hates 3.0 recruiting seems like an acceptable answer

Because he can’t win on his own
