Commentary for DH $52M Draft League LXVI Topic

DH - Montrezl is a great pick. I would’ve snagged him if I didn’t need 3s so desperately. He should be considered as early as the late 3rd IMO

This draft is so deep now. If dh wants to give me the first pick next season, I'll promise to draft Lebron, pass for all my other picks, and fill out the roster with undrafted players. Without knowing exactly who might go undrafted, I think I could have a decent shot of making the playoffs.

Might be worth thinking about scaling back to 50M.

I thought about Montrezl - and about a pretty similar contemporary of his - in the fourth round. But in the I opted for better D and rebounding in Wallace, giving up slightly higher usage and superior efficiency.

what's with all of these drops? Two guys absolutely should not still be here, and two more are going to make some owner very happy.

I actually think $51 million is where we should be. It's almost impossible to have a real salary crunch in this league, unless you have Wilt (and even then it's not really that tough).

Like I said, it's because of the depth of the draft. With lots of seasons from 15-16 through 18-19 that have moved guys into the draft pool, or moved them up in the draft pool, By rounds 4-5, teams are starting to draft for specific needs. A handful of new guys making a case for picks in those first 3-4 rounds therefore means a handful of guys every year will come out of those rounds. And because teams are drafting more for need later, falling out of the first 3-4 rounds sometimes means falling farther than one would expect, until an owner who both realizes the fall and needs the player comes along.

Impossible? I'm in a crunch already. Usually end up pretty tight!

It's hard to see how you could be, unless (1) you're planning on drafting well more than 19600 minutes, and/or (2) you're trying to have drafted players play almost all of your minutes (and throw away the other 1000 or so), and/or (3) you're going to draft way too much usage (2 of your 5 picks are tier 1 usage and another is tier 2 usage, which is way too much even if you're going to stagger Beal and Wade's minutes to some extent).

With a starting 5 of...

Mookie Blaylock
Magic Johnson
Bo Outlaw
Hakeem Olajuwon
Chris Webber

I am ready for the season of mediocrity. Or probably much worse. But who knows maybe my next experiment will work out. Been experimenting using basketball references VORP and BPM stats to build teams. That’s what drove the early Hakeem pick
9/6/2019 7:42 PM
PG Jrue Holiday / Mike Conley
SG Manu Ginobili / Jrue Holiday
SF Serge Ibaka
PF Amare Stoudemire / Nikola Vucevic
C Emeka Okafor / Nikola Vucevic

I'm cautiously optimistic with this bunch, and I have 5 mil left to cover 26 total bench minutes.

Holy usage, batman. That's way too much. And frontcourt defense will definitely be an issue.

I actually kind of dig that team - I do agree that I’d go a little lower usage to try to feed the super-efficient Amare as much as possible, but that’s a good 7-man rotation IMO.

Now the doom is assured rotation is

Mookie Blaylock/ Magic Johnson
Magic Johnson/ Toni Kukoc
Bo Outlaw
Hakeem Olajuwon/ Chris Webber
Chris Webber/ Arvydas Sabonis
