Runner on 3rd with (86 speed/74 BR), 1 out. 3rd base coach has 80 IQ. Batter flies out to deep RCF. (RF has arm noodle strength of 41, accuracy of 53). Runner holds. This is Top 1 of:

Baffling to me. Maybe it was a Jerry Trupiano call..."Rosado hits it well...way back....WAY BACK...caught at the edge of the infield dirt."

What's your baserunning aggressiveness setting for the team?

To my knowledge, 3B coach IQ does not factor into sim logic, only in-season development and free agency tiebreakers

Yes, this is correct.

What is the point of having good ML coaches ratings then? People barely improve at ML level.

Wow, I have no clue. Just one of those HBD things.

EDIT: Actually, I just got a clue. I wonder if "deep" is just flavor text, and if flyballs don't actually have any depth in the sim. It would be consistent with the sim's general simplicity. In that case, your guy with high SPD/BR runs most of the time on flyballs to a weak arm in RF, but not all the time; every now and then the random number generator says he doesn't go, and it doesn't matter if the PbP says "deep" or "shallow" because that's just to make the PbP look more realistic.

Aha. ??

Adequate ML coaching, there’s a theory that it’ll help your older players stave off decline.

You would like to have a good fielding instructor because he affects all levels of your minors, not just your major leaguers.

Otherwise, I’ve come to believe that overspending on major league coaching is vanity or sentiment. I’m usually guilty of the sentiment.

Also, winning tiebreakers for max contract free agents.

Well yes there is that... if you're going in on that kind of free agent action, then you need the vanity coaches.

That has always seemed to me to be the only real reason for "vanity" coaches. I don't think I've ever offered a true max contract-- I've traded for them-- and as such I lowball my ML non-fielding coach spending.

Yeah, I can get all my coach hiring done with quality enough coaches for 7 mil. I usually bump that to 10-11 if I need FI, but sometimes I'm able to transfer 2 back out if I get a FI at reasonable price. Seems like most people in my leagues spend 10-12 annually on coaches. I've never seen the value in that.

Does Discipline coach rating = control for pitching and batting eye for hitting? I have seen guys over the age of 27 who have not gained anything in control for pitching or eye for hitting in a few seasons and all of sudden they get a few points when I load up my coaching with coaches that have high discipline.

Flyballs do have have depth in the sun. They have depth in the HR Derby but not in actual games
