Does Mahomes get an assist?
I've mentioned a few times before that I stepped into a good situation left by another Coach.
Who left.
For another job.
Did I mention him by name? No. Should I? Sure, let's give a HUUUGE assist to Mahomes for building a team that won a National Championship.
Two seasons after he left.
I'm sure I'm not the only Coach that has done this. And you know what? I'm pretty fu@#ing ****** that you're trying to throw shade (intentional or not) on me winning with his players. By the way, some of those were mine that I recruited and were signed in RS2 (Daly, Pitts and maybe another).
If Mahomes is angry he can message me and I'll gladly apologize for taking over a program that I was at previously.
Thanks for bringing this up mollycj. Maybe Seble can put an asterisk next to Mahomes name? Or on my Coaching profile?
i didn't take his comment so negatively.. i think he was sort of trying to get mahomes a mention more than diminish what you did.
IMO, if you are 2 seasons out already, you've done an awful lot to shape that team. i guess more so at d1 than d2/d3, but its still significant.
even though the players on the team incorporate both the previous coach's vision for the team, and his prowess at recruiting - there is absolutely nothing that says you automatically pick up those players with the same vision he had. or that his idea of how to use those players is remotely accurate. you still need to wrap your mind around the team, fill in the missing pieces, and put together a good team setup to utilize those pieces. there's a lot to it, and doing that with players who are all new to you, is far from easy.
so, in short, i don't really think winning with someone else's players diminishes much. its one thing if you are incapable of recruiting players nearly as talented, and you are hopping around trying to avoid having to recruit yourself. on the other hand, you might be a better recruiter. i won my first title with someone elses players and then 4 seasons later won my 2nd d3 title (which was by then my 4th overall but still) with mine - but mine were infinitely better. the coaching job i had to do with the other guy's players was way harder and IMO more impressive. others may not see it that way but folks in general underestimate how important synergy and the post-recruiting strategy is. they think its all about recruiting, but that is false.
so, i wouldn't worry about it :)
