140M Teammate Draft, 2019 Topic

So, in order to increase your chances at a high pick every round, pick a guy with lots of potential teammate selections. There really is no advantage of picking a guy with few good teammates.

The caveat being that each owner only selects one teammate from each nominated player (plus one additional player, so I guess that means two from one nominee?). So in theory it should spread out because everyone has to take a teammate from your nominee at some point.

With so many people posting their interpretation of the rules, I am confused. Is round one a random order draft or does jfranco go first?

If round one is in fact a random order draft, shoudn't the draft order be determined first because it effects our selection of the nominated player?

Also, jfranco's selection of deGrom as his nominated player suggests to me that he may not fully understand the rules. Just a guess.....

DeGrom himself will not be eligible. Only his teammates.

I thought it was very clear that the only order we know so far is the nomination list. Ozo will be randomizing the first round draft order.

redcped, that is also my understanding of the rules. But are all 24 owners on the same page?

jfranco goes first (when nominating a player). That's why ozomatli said jfranco has the first choice.

The draft order for drafting teammates (not nominating) is not yet determined (and we won't know until after everyone has nominated a player).

By nominating deGrom, no one can pick Jacob DeGrom himself but anyone who has ever played with Jacob DeGrom is eligible to be drafted.

Considering no one knows what slot they will be drafting in (regarding teammates), DeGrom seems to be a safe choice.

I admit with some of the posts and rule clarifications, I don't have everything straight yet. I'm just working on the uncontroversial themes for now, the ones no one seems to have any questions about. But, yeah, I have to nominate someone here pretty soon and I have no idea what the strategy for that should be.

Guys, the rules to this are meant to be pretty simple. I think you are reading too much into it. justinlee_24 has it right.

1. One round to nominate a player, starting with #1 ranked owner
2. 25 round draft where you select a teammate of each nominated player, and a second teammate of one player. Order of the first round is determined randomly, while future rounds are based on the rank of the owner who nominated the player you chose a teammate of.
3. Nominated players themselves are blacklisted.

deGrom is fine, Ripken is fine. Let's keep it moving.

If no one selects any teammates of your nominated player in round one, you drop to the bottom of the draft order in round 2. So why would you nominate a player with few good teammates?

You still have it backwards...your next pick is based upon which owner's player you choose with your drafted pick, NOT who uses or doesn't use your chosen player. If you want to pick high, don't take dippedncrack's teammates.

I am going with Randy Johnson as my pick...

OK let's clarify the rules with an actual example. Let's say I get #1 draft choice in round one. I select Mike Mussina as a teammate of Cal Ripken. Let's say nobody picks a teammate of Jacob DeGrom. So in round 2, I draft first and jfranco drafts last. Correct or not correct?

I do not think this is correct. If someone else picks a teammate of Ripken they will draft before you in Round 2, since you picked #1, by definition they would have selected after you.

The second provision, no one selecting a teammate of your nominated player, went away I think. Or does that one still exist? Not sure what purpose it serves or why it is even necessary when draft order is already based on who you select.
