I think you are misunderstanding how the offense/defense preferences are being scored for *your* team. If your team runs the same offense/defense as the recruit's preference for the majority of your games (based on minutes played just in case you run multiple defenses), then you will score a Very Good, otherwise if you don't match up you get Neutral.
Ex. Recruit A has a preference for Motion, you run Motion in the first game of the season, you will then see Very Good for the recruit subsequently. If Recruit B has a preference for Triangle, you will score Neutral (but another school who runs Triangle will get Very Good). Distribution of offense/defense preferences are suppose to be random.
As for Paint/Perimeter/Defense preferences, I've been tracking these since HD 3.0 has launched and have the following data so far:
| Paint |
Perimeter |
Defense |
| 20.0% = Very Good |
23.13% = Very Bad |
81.68% = Very Good |
| 20.1% = Good |
23.18% = Bad |
82.03% = Good |
| 27.273% = Good |
28.959% = Bad |
95.113% = Good |
| 27.283% = Neutral |
28.99% = Neutral |
95.12% = Neutral |
| 38.004% = Neutral |
35.368% = Neutral |
108.21% = Neutral |
| 38.148% = Bad |
35.391% = Good |
114.32% = Bad |
| 53.19% = Bad |
42.31% = Good |
126.15% = Bad |
| 55.05% = Very Bad |
42.56% = Very Good |
? = Very Bad |
Paint/Perimeter is determined by taking your 3PT FGA and divide by the Total FGA.
Defense is calculated by taking your opponent's Total stats from your team's stat page and use the following formula:
PPP% = 100% x (OPTS / (OFGA + 0.44 x OFTA - OOReb + OTO))
where OPTS = Opponent Total Points scored
OFGA = Opponent Total Field Goal attempted
OFTA = Opponent Total Free Throws attempted
OOReb = Opponent Total Offense Rebounds
OTO = Opponent Turnovers
All of the above are totals which you see when you click on a Team's stats page and then click on Show Totals.
