wow I was trying to choose between Martin and Phillips. back and forth back and forth... and this is just an observation not a complaint, sounds like one but I now realize, those in the first 10 or so maybe more (choosing 2 players) have a huge advantage being able to pick the best of the 6xfactor teams besides their own pick of their assigned team. Proof - all 7(so far) have taken the best of those 6xfactor teams. Meanwhile those of us down at the bottom of the picking order most likely will not be cherry picking between their own team plus the top guys in the 6xfactor teams. The rally good ones will be gone. Oh well the luck of the draw...
I don't necessarily disagree with you here; though I picked Kevin Brown primarily because I never have the opportunity to pick players from those franchises. I did weigh missing-out on Miggy/Granderson, who would have fit nicely in my build. IMO, had this been a season with the DH, it would be less of a balance issue..
At the same time, during the Nationals/Expos round, I was very surprised that both picks were not from the Nationals/Expos pitching staff.
This is a fair observation, especially on the pitching side. The very best starting pitchers are pretty much gone at this point, and it's definitely something I will tweak in some way shape or form if there is interest to do this again.

Here is a potential idea that might help address:

You MAY select a player from one of the franchises not being used, but this player MUST be a different category of player than the individual selected from your assigned franchise. The categories to which I am referring are hitter vs. pitcher. So if you take a pitcher from your assigned franchise, you cannot take another one from one of the teams not being used (or likewise with hitters, although I think this is less of an issue).

This way at least the people who are lucky enough to draft early cannot completely load up on pitching - unless their assigned franchise is blessed with elite pitchers (i.e. Dodgers, Mets).

this seems to be turning ugly for guys on the bottom picking. The top 8-12 guys will have cherry picked all the players they need to get a solid base started with higher priced players and can then start filling in as the draft moves on. The guys on the bottom 12 or so are just trying to figure out what lower/cheaper players they have to get in order to plan for their rounds. It seems to me that the bottom (12+-??) should be the ones getting their shot at the 6Xfactor teams. OF course you can't do it now this season and I know I sound like sour grapes but next yr if I am in I feel that it should be evened out. Maybe I'm the only one feeling this way. But like I posted earlier I just think last year it was more fair doing without the 6xfactor teams involved in the draft. When I signed up I liked the idea, then Didn't realize this, that until ANYBODY picking late is at a big disadvantage. Just my opinion, but lets play on and hope I do a good job with where I'm at picking now. If when the season is over I guess we will be able to evaluate the standings to see if there is a showing of did this make a difference or not. Sorry just evaluating what I see happening. I won't post again on this matter
I’m confused how you are at adisadvange except for the 6 X factor teams being picked through. Once the draft get to you, you still get first shot at 2 stars from your franchise, then you get high picks for the next however many teams since you move down one spot each round, so yes you pick bad at the beginning, but then you pick high and those guys that picked high early pick late and get the pick overs, seems to me it all evens out, everyone gets the same amount of high picks, just from different franchises. Everyone picks from each position, it’s all the same. It’s just where the franchises fall. I picked last in round 1, then moved to top, now I’m slowing moving down the list each round. I really don’t like the franchises I get to pick high from, by the time it gets to the franchises with really great players, I’ll be at the end. It’s all relative.

I really like the league and I like the addition of being allowed to choose from unused teams. That said, an idea popped in my head that I would like to share. I haven't thought this through but here it is:
  • Have the team draft order be the opposite of the standings from the prior year
    • So, this season the first picks would have been:
      • White Sox (58 wins)
      • Twins (66 wins)
      • Brewers (70 wins)
      • Giants (71 wins), etc.
Maybe that would help even out the league. Anyway, really enjoy it the format and Mr_Cubbie does a great job. Whatever we do I'm in for the long haul.

I think reasonable dialogue and discourse is appreciated, with the intent of continuing to improve the league.
My sentiments exactly. This rule change hasn't played out precisely how I intended, but I do like having the option of selecting players from the unused franchises. It increases the overall pool of talent, and that trickles down throughout each round. I do think tweaks will need to be made in future iterations, and I certainly appreciate everyone's ideas and suggestions. I may be managing the draft, but I'm glad to have the involvement and engagement of others.

Would love it if we could stop quoting these long threads though. It would be ok if people just added comments without quoting the prior thread. Just my 2 cents

the difference between having Randy Johnson and Felix Hernandez available to you versus moving up one slot in the Angels round for example is quite big. It's definitely an advantage to pick first early in this draft.
