If you don't plan on using them in the big leagues to start next season they will have to be demoted. You can either do it now or after rollover, but IMO it's better to do it now. If you do it now, you will be paying them AAA salary next season instead of $343k and if they're out options, you can pass them through revocable waivers instead of risking losing them next season.

I know for a fact this question has been asked before, but can't seem to dig up the answer...how many HBD days are there between Game #162 of one season and Opening Day of the next one? IWO, when you get the message that "Player X is progressing, but still injured" at the end of the regular season, I know there is a way to calculate exactly when he'll be healthy again and just can't remember the exact numbers. To figure out if Player X would be healthy on the next Opening Day, you would need to know:
  • # of days in the post-season
  • # of days that "pass" when a season rolls over
  • # of days from rollover to Opening Day in a new season
Obviously, if the number of days remaining on his injury is larger than the total of those three combined, he'll still be sidelined on Opening Day. If it's below that you can count on him being good to go...but does anyone remember/know what those numbers are?
You can count the post-season HBD days yourself (and I don't remember the answer to this part)-- just remember not to count "placeholder days" as HBD days.

The offseason is either 110 or 111 HBD days long (I forget which exactly), and it ends when budgets are locked in (that is, the first HBD day of the season is the first day on which you may re-sign your own free agents and coaches).

Any reason not to stick a good starter into a regular setup role if that's where you need him?

I'd do it. Especially in the playoffs.

One of the things MikeT said a while ago that actually stuck with me is that, in a stats based game like this you want your best pitchers pitching the most innings. Hence why he never used a closer. The best guy on your team should be a SuA so he gets more innings.

My only argument would be the same thing. If the guy is good enough to be a starter I'd want 150+ innings from him rather then 75-120. But, whichever works.

Yeah. I have a very good starter with a short pitch count - and he's a lefty - so at playoff time he's the one who goes to the pen.

The only thing is that no matter how much you fiddle with the settings - you can guess at them - but you're not guaranteed that your sim coach isn't going to put another guy in, instead of the one you want. So if this is a guy you want throwing innings for sure, the only way to guarantee that is as a starter.

Also this. All I want is SuA, SuB, SuC, SuD or a hierarchy. Some real advanced programming to make sure I get the pitchers I want. But I guess that is too much to ask. They'd rather just ban us for finding a loophole in their faulty programming.

Just to follow up on this...I originally asked because I wanted to know if Player Profile: Pascual Maduro - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports would be good to go for next year. He had 176 days left at the start of the playoffs, and if the World Series (which we just started) goes 7 games, he will have 134 remaining before the offseason. So, it would seem that there are 42 days in a post-season that features a 7 game World Series.

Thoughts on this guy? I'm hoping for Gold Glove SS with above average bat especially for SS. Will i get what I hope for? Player Profile: Naoto Masato - Hardball Dynasty Baseball | WhatIfSports

You certainly could get a Gold Glove SS with a mid-to-high 700's OPS; that's the high end projection. I would reasonably expect an above average but not élite SS, with about a .260/.300/.390 bat in a neutral park.

Even the lesser projection is a very good player, probably worth whatever his contract demands are into his first free agency.

Is there a disadvantage to putting a prospect in the big leagues in relation to their development? I know if they aren't ready their stats can bite you in the *** but will it effect their development at all?

Aaron Minicozzi should not be in the big leagues but this is a new team for me and the previous owner had him playing ML ball last year. He is putting up acceptable numbers but his development has halted and I'm afraid to drop him. No idea what to do.

I call up young guys all the time if they are my best option and I have not noticed it effecting their development negatively. In theory, I would say that they would develop better in the bigs because of the better coaching, but I can't prove this. I brought up the above player as a 20 yo. He was a MVP candidate at 21. I hate that you can't see his development path, but he picked 7 in overall as a 20 yo and 4 more as a 21 yo.

Also, if you haven't started ST yet in your new league, you can demote him without penalty.

It’ll never happened because Admin only looks at the forums to have reasons to ban us or threaten us but:

If the prospect board was created for the draft right after budgets were set do you think this would be better or worse for the game?

on one hand you could determine if giving away your 1st overall pick for a stud FA is worth it based off of your board or hold on to the pick because it’s a stellar draft class.

On the other hand it could keep top teams at the top because they only sign killer FA’s when the draft sucks and keep their picks when the draft is deep.

thoughts?

More information = more opportunity to exploit it.

MikeT23 always said this is a money allocation game at its heart. If you take away uncertainty, I would think you actually take away some of the strategy and the fun.

Has anyone found the 'sweet spot' for pull ratings under player setting for starting pitchers?

Once again I feel like my coach cost me a game for leaving a pitcher in for too long.

Danny Mulholland has been a great pitcher for me (the stats actually say one of my best pitchers of all time when counting WHIP and .Avg) but half if not most of his games he tends to have 1 bad inning. I have him set to a call bullpen at 3. Typically most of my starters I will set to 2-3 or 4 depending on how much I trust them. For the most part I find 1 is 'Throw your target pitch count regardless of what happens' and 5 is 'A run is scored on you, I'm calling the bullpen regardless if it is top of the 1st or not.

So looking at my last game SD vs KC. Mulholland has a really good game going into the 8th. I'm guessing at this point he has probably thrown between 90 and 100 pitches based off of his final pitch count. He starts the inning giving up a single and two walks. At this point, I would have pulled him if I had a say in it. My bench coach or whoever makes this decision decides to keep him in and he gets the next out without giving up a run. (I just checked, Ransom and James are both righties and Mulholland is a leftie) the coach leaves him in for the next batter (James) he gives up a base clearing double. Bullpen comes in and closes out the inning, games ends 6-5.

So my question is, has anyone found a way to tell the sim 'Let the guy work through it if the game is early, but be more likely to call the bullpen if the game is late'? I know this is just one game out of 162 and a lot more weird stuff will happen then this, just bugs me when I would have done things differently.

Edit: My bench coach has a 93 strategy rating.

Does the bench coach actually have any effect on game strategy if the manager isn't ejected?
