Hi,

This isn't a bug, but by design, so that a new coach isn't handicapped by the previous coach overspending in the first recruiting session. It's really only an issue in the rare case that you've just gone through. The only thing we could really do is reset everything related to recruiting (including any built up interest) when a new coach comes aboard. Thanks.

Thanks for playing on WhatIfSports.

This is the ticket indians posted on the previous page. It isn't vague. seble's dead wrong about the "rare case" bit, he seems to simply not understand that this is being exploited regularly, but it's not worth beating our heads against the wall.

that in no way says it is not cheating to intentionally exploit that rule to get extra money over in over.... see, this is exactly what i'm talking about.

all seble says there is (paraphrase) 'i don't think this is a big deal, i bet its rare for coaches to get the extra money and i don't feel like doing anything about it'.

specifically, he says: 'It's really only an issue in the rare case that you've just gone through'.

- the case 'indian just went through' was legitimately forgetting. getting extra money 1 time because of legitimate forgetting, that is rare and seble isn't that worried about it. in fact, he explicitly does NOT weigh in on the intentional exploitation, because he says 'its really only an issue in...' and describes one case. exploiting the glitch 10 seasons in a row is a completely different case.

saying 'seble says its ok to exploit the glitch' based on that ticket to me is wrong and borderline irresponsible. you've got to have something a LOT better than that!

Good grief dude. You've been misunderstanding this issue and how it works throughout the thread, I've been trying to help you understand it, and now you're laying into me for the correct interpretation of seble's email?

We're done here.

my intent wasn't to lay into you, so i apologize for coming across that way. i do appreciate all the info you provided as well, thanks!

to me if one is going to say 'exploiting this glitch is OK per game developers' then the bar is EXTREMELY high, in terms of how explicitly the game admins are OKing the exploit. that is a universal concept in my worldview, and a very important one. i don't think seble's comment to indian here even comes close to that bar. hence my question about a more direct statement.

Apology accepted, and thanks for the kind reply.

I know I didn't give you the exact wording you were looking for where seble directly says he knows this is a bug and you can abuse it anyway.

But he does state this is how the game works "by design," and the loophole "isn't a bug." By calling the loophole an intentional feature, he's saying using the feature isn't cheating, regardless of how ruthlessly it's abused.

I don't think that's vague. Evidently you do, and that's fine. There ain't no good guy, there ain't no bad guy.

I am more proud of this thread than anything I've done on any of my teams.

By a pretty wide margin.

I'm with KC on this one. Seble is so damn wishy washy with rule interpretations that it leaves people the little silver of a loophole to go after while not TECHNICALLY breaking the rules. Again, one of the most frustrating things about him and WIS is rule interpretation around here.

so yeah Gil, you're right. For any reasonable person with a functioning brain, you can see it's wrong to use this glitch but that's not the the kind of people we have playing this game unfortunately.

I mean, **** we just had an argument the other day about the 2 teams in 1 world thing and people still try to interpret the rules to their advantage.

Update on talking about the game in a college basketball fan group on Facebook (and also selfishly to keep my thread in lights):

Only two guys seem really interested initially. We'll see how the day goes. But if these guys stick, in addition to my dad, my brother, and the two friends I got in, that's half a conference under my belt.

Let me know if you want me to run for HD president...

hmmmm... president, myabe.
but if nothing else you can be the HD marketing director!

This thread has been a great thing for the Forums. I don't contribute much anymore but still check in daily to read up on it. Good work pallas!!

I am very excited for real life college basketball this year. I am a big Dayton fan and it's awesome to see us sitting at #5 in Kenpom. Their game in Maui against Kansas was one of the best regular season games I remember seeing.

I enjoy this game primarily because I love the sport and competition in general, but I also like the math stuff and play around with my spreadsheet. Although I won my two titles when I was taking a break from my spreadsheet and simplified my distribution...

Your old Dayton coach, Archie Miller, is already on shaky ground in Bloomington, according to a growing portion of the fan base. I don't necessarily agree with it; I think it's too early to tell. But Indiana fans are short on patience and long on delusion.

I'm not long on delusion, I just want to see an offense that isn't like watching the mechanical insides of a Trabant struggle to justify it's existence.

That's a fair expectation. I just have a short fuse for a lot of fans, especially those bloviating in Facebook groups.
