Trump’s border wall, vulnerable to flash floods, needs large storm gates left open for months

We've had people cutting them open with $30 saws. going over them with $12 ladders, moderate winds knocking them over

Mexico should demand a refund,, bigly!

NO, it's NOT Doug!

For accuracy's sake. Let me clarify a tad.
The "saw" necessary costs a lot more than $30.00. I own one of them.
It's a tad under 200 Bucks IF I remember correctly. The BLADE necessary, however, costs less than 10 Bucks.
You can use the blade repeatedly.

I can't comment on the cost of ladders in Mexico, but it WOULD take a decent ladder......... not a cheap piece of sh*t!
The winds I do know about.

THAT part is true.
We had 30 - 35 MPH gusts in our area about a week ago.
The gusts knocked down (blew them over into Mexico!! lol) several of the sections of the "beautiful, new wall".
Apparently the concrete hadn't set yet.
No word yet on how well the Wall will withstand the microbursts we get with 100 MPH winds!
As to the "storm gates"......... that is also true.

I've been posting on THAT issue for (seems like) 4 ever.
We have these things called "washes".
They fill up with water bigly on occasion.
The water runs downhill, carrying lots of debris, etc.
Big forces.
It would plug up when the wash intersects the wall.............. Forces colliding.
Something has to give. Don't "F" with Mother Nature------------believe me the Wall gives away!!
So, you need "storm gates" with screens to TRY to prevent intrusion. Down in the bottom of big sandy washes!!
Just how hard do you think it is to dig around or cut thru the screening?
Doesn't even take that 200 buck saw!

Not to even mention ALL the DAMAGE done to OUR Country, our environment, thru some of the most spectacularly lonely and beautiful lands left on the continent. Nor the damage done to the wildlife's ability to migrate for survival.
In frank honesty, the WALL, neither Big nor Beautiful when viewed in context, is the single stupidest idea Trump has come up with yet...........save for the completely moronic "Space Force".

UH.......if a newly set section blew over because the concrete hadn't set.....Just reset the damn thing. It's cool.

How long does it take to cut through one?

A simple drainage hole and pipe should work. You don't need a gate.

LMFAO!!!

See, that's the problem. People who think a wall will work in the terrain of Southern AZ, NM, and West Texas have never SEEN the desert.
They be ignorant of what's they speak of.

Just FYI Doug, because you've ACtUALLY debated lately, Any pipe/culvert large enough to adequately handle even the smallest of OUR washes here in AZ would be easily large enough for an upright tall man/woman to walk thru...........you might as well install that gate, because without it, and adequate law enforcement to enforce the meaning of gate........you ain't stopping ANYONE who really wants in!

It's kinda like Trump reducing the size of National Monuments He's never even been close to seeing!!
He doesn't have a clue what Bears Ears is, for example.
But he knows, dammit!!

LOL!!

EDITED to add:

Maybe this bit of "experience" will help.
In Mesa, AZ---(population Approx 375,000.) there is a major road crossing of the normally dry Salt River. It's called Gilbert Rd.
Now the salt River has it's OWN History of flooding in the Valley of the Sun. Phoenix was repeatedly besat with floods for years............until they FINALLY put dams on that there river, 3 of them eventually, primarily for flood control. The 1st when was/is called Roosevelt Dam, after Teddy R.who proudly visited the site, back in about 1912, iff'n I remember correctly. Anyways, I digress.

A very few years ago, millions and millions of dollars were spent putting in an additional swath of pavement across the salt to allow for two (divided) lanes of traffic. The existing section was used as a 2-way section and actually just went down inot the riverbed and across and thus had to be closed every time the river ran. major urban inconvenience, you see. 1000's of vehicles wanting to cross.
So. Bingo, new fancy crossing. Arched. Raised bed. Multiple culvert's underneath allowing the river to gently flow on thru...........

Lasted one monsoon storm. LOL.
River flew so fast and so large it washed out one of the approaching banks 1000's of yards from the actual arched pavement and the river just ran right on around (and eventually), thru and over it..........took 'em years to sort out what to be done and fix it.

I'd bet my life that THAT fix ain't permanent.
You see, I live HERE.
I know.
I've seen it.
The good creator gave me memory.
I use it.
C'mon man!
Smarten up!
You is!!

ALWAYS: Please post your source. Otherwise it's just a story.
Source, for what???.......... the winds?? Look it up yourselves, it was big news, unless all you watch is Limbag and Hannutty.

The rest is my own knowledge based on REAL experience having lived and FENCED myself (more like trying to fence) on my own desert property and my Fathers freakin' ranch!!
It's called first hand experience.

Tell you what, next monsoon season, when the warshers are running "full on" you can visit.............. I know just the little spot of land for you to be sitting when the floood sweeps down the wash!!

Are you any good at gaining altitude quickly???.......... like a helicopter......... I hope so........ you'se gonna need it!

No, apparently, you don't.
I've been in Amarillo, too. It is NOTHING like the real southwester desert of which we speak.
I haven't been to Wichita Falls, but know where it is.

Years ago, I had a buddy named Cecil on a construction project we shared. A lodge, actually.
Anyway, Cecil was cool. Had all sorts of stories about Wichita Falls.
Those and my knowledge of Wichita's Falls location AND the fact that I do know Oklahoma fairly well, tell me that Wichita Falls (also) is NOTHING like Lukeville, AZ. Nor Sasabe. Nor Columbus, NM, nor.............. get it??

Here's what you need to know about Wichita Falls...the best bars are 7 miles away in Lawton.

Here's a better question. Why should we build a wall in the first place? Do we have to? Why?
2/9/2020 4:38 PM
We absolutely don't have to.
