Trying to sign 1st round DP Topic

I drafted an elite pitching prospect in the 1st rnd of the draft. He was a "probably won't sign" guy, so I offered his full ask. He later upped his ask(like $6M) and I did not have enough $$ left to meet his demands. It was suggested to just keep offering as much as I had and maybe he'll accept. He hasn't after dozens of attempts. So I upped the offer to a Big League contract with 3 years salary of $54K per. No go. I see I can increase the ML contract part to higher salaries. Is there a limit? Can I offer him as much as I want in the contract(I can't up the bonus, no $$)? Because I'll offer him a lot if I can. Even if I have to put him on the ML roster, he's worth it.

He won't accept an ML contract. You'll need to meet his demands otherwise he won't sign and you will get a pick for him one lower next season. He absolutely will sign if you are able to meet his demands.

An owner in one of our leagues years ago had this dilemma. You can try to dump salary but other owners may argue that you need to give up top level prospects because it will result in you getting a top level prospect. Its a difficult spot to be in.

Just keep offering with what you have. It could still work for you.

We are in the playoffs, so a salary dump is not an option. And I've maxed out the bonus money, but it's a couple mil short of his ask. He went from an initial ask of about $6-7M to over $13M. Caught me short. Don't recall seeing that big a jump before. And I don't have any more payroll to transfer. I offered his full initial ask, so I'll get the D next season. But this is really frustrating because I rarely have an elite SP, and this guy looked like the real deal. I love when the say "So and so is raising his demands a fraction". Yeah, I guess 100% is a fraction.

Guys will accept less than their full ask, but the cutoff is about 85%. In many attempts I've never had a guy accept less than 85% of his current full asking price. In many many many many attempts I've never had a guy not eventually accept an offer in the 85-90% range of his ask (I NEVER offer more than 90% of ask). If you have less than 85% of what he's asking you're out of luck

Edit: I do offer 100% on guys want to get a comp pick for, but if I'm planning to sign them I just offer 85% over and over until they accept.

Never knew you could do this. That's cool. Will have to give it a try. Have you ever been burned doing this?

Part of me says, " Well, you're a Missouri fan, so of course he is not going to sign." The other part of me says, "Keep trying. But he will probably not sign."

I've always signed guys for around 85-90% of their asking price. Some will sign for 85% or a little lower, others will not sign until I've offered 90% but rarely have to offer over 90%. I've found myself with a lot of free time recently so I'm trying to see if there is a formula to predict who will sign for what. I'm looking at ages, agents, rounds...many factors. In my most recent draft I started offering 80% and had 4 picks sign at 80% and all but one signed for less than 90%. The next couple I am going to start at 75% and see if anyone will go less than 80.

End of season, I had a round 18 guy who wanted 6.5 mil, and I had 5.5 mil left over with absolutely nothing else to spend it on. I offered it and after a few rejections he decided to think about it. Came back asking for 7.5. I offered the 5.5 over and over for the rest of the season but he never took it. (I had a player take the deal once before.)
