I think people have gotten so caught up in the "prestige barely matters below D1" forum narrative that they now underestimate it. That's 7 grades. That's in the neighborhood of a 50% bump BEFORE the modest preference advantage. Unless my numbers are waaaayyyyyy off, gil's 20% multiplier estimate for team B was way too small. Probably more like 1.6 or 1.65.

Possibly, but I get crushed by D and C prestige schools in D2 at times. So yes prestige does "matter". But for comparison purposes, in D1 a C prestige school must be all in against a really weak effort from an A+ to compete. Where in D2, a C can get in range no matter what the effort is from the A+ school.

That is likely why people feel like it doesn't matter. Same thing with D prestige. Or even D3 teams (which from an A+ D2 down to an example B D3 is like 10 to 15 levels of prestige separation!).

As a D1 coach if I was a D- prestige, and an A+ school shows up, I'd run like hell and bail. As a D2 coach, if I was a D and an A+ D2 led, I'd say "see you at the dice roll my friend"

Sure. In D1 a full prestige grade is something like a 70% edge. And it's an exponential scale, so 2 grades isn't 140%, it's 190%. An average A+ is getting like 3x the recruiting value per action that an average C is getting. Everybody knows it's huge.

In D2 I think it's something like 16-18% per full letter grade. Small enough that if the lower prestige has a preference advantage, they might be on fairly level footing. And I routinely battle D2 humans and sims with my A+ D3 team. But you do have to recognize that it's not on level footing, it's just close enough to be worth putting up a fight under the right circumstances...

I use 10% per full letter at D2 and D3.

My numbers could be off, I can't guarantee they're not. I haven't played D2 in a while. But I don't think I'm off by that much. I'd be very surprised if D2 is as low as 10%.

I'd also be a little surprised if D3 is quite that high.

this is probably accurate, the 20% was probably significantly too low. that was really kind of a crappy answer i put out there, IMO, i was trying to go through the process with sort of arbitrary numbers just to kinda show a method to get from value estimates to a result estimate. not really that surprised i was way off in my conclusion!
