This is kind of fun. I agree Progs are a completely different animal. I just couldn't resist Ozo's juicy pitch right in my wheelhouse.
Schwartz and Rbow have both said one cannot compete for the title of GOAT having never won the WIS Championship tourney. And as one who has never played in that I Agree.
I will say way way back in the day, at least 2 full redesigns ago. With my old school Prime Time "Fatigue Strategy" team. I was unstoppable.
Alas, my days of glory. Long since past and forgotten. But how I remember announcing "It's Showtime" shortly after the all-star-break and then blowing through the second half and playoffs.
Sigh, I could'a been a contender...
I'm not sure I agree about the WIS Championship. When I had more time, I used to compete and came in 2nd once. But, in the past that tournament had skewed toward lower salary cap leagues because of the incorrect perception that building a team to win was easier in higher cap leagues. Since I haven't played in the WIS Championship in a while, I can't say whether this is still true.
Higher cap leagues tend to negate the strategies like using +++ range with high average hitters because it's not hard to draft pitchers that can deal with those kinds of players. Contrary to what some in the sim may think, the 1885 Roger Connor season isn't the best season ever by a first baseman. ;)
Back in the day, I believe that I was the first owner to win at least one title at every salary cap that can be chosen directly in the theme league setup module. Some people like to play in open leagues or higher cap leagues that behave like open leagues (because there are no theme restrictions) and utilize the same +++ range strategy with higher average hitters in a park with negative HR factors and positive factors for singles/doubles/triples. That's their right. Whether that makes them great owners is a matter for debate.
