Most Successful WIS Owner Years Topic

Low blow, farley. You can do better, sir. I found the post interesting. Super-active owners like ozo, skunk & contrarian are good for WIS.

I'm surprised that the number of leagues played doesn't seem to be available anymore as I believe it was at one time. It would also be interesting if it was possible to break out progressive leagues because anyone who plays more progressives is likely to win titles at a lower rate because a team inevitably needs to rebuild if an owner stays with the league for several seasons.

Because of this topic, I went and downloaded the detail of my title-winning teams. Oddly enough, on 4/6/2004, I won three titles in one day.

Agree with PQ...from 2011-2017 I played in progressives more than regular theme leagues. I commished 2 progs during that time and didn't really enjoy themes as much. Started getting back into theme leagues in 2017 and play them pretty often now. I've won only 24 progressive titles out of well over 500 teams.

Mike, the first progressive I played in was one of yours back several years ago!.

Number of leagues played is available in an owner's profile, but not in a single place that I can download

One thing I wish I could capture here is Leagues Played per Title Won. That, combined by winning percentage and weighted by leagues played, would be a great way to think about who the best of all time is. Unfortunately, I don't have access to data around # of leagues entered, only # of titles won
Well for me it's 3.45 Leagues played per title won.
251 Leagues played minus 6 in progress = 245.
71 Titles
14 TOC for 17.5 Leagues played per TOC won.
(Of course some of those leagues were played befor the TOC was created.)

Those are great numbers, grizzly. Maybe one day I will ask for a league breakdown by owner that shows open vs theme leagues so that we can really compare everyone.

For me, it's 112 titles, 215 world series, and 698 playoff appearances in 1,179 completed seasons. However, I'm certain that at least 150-250 of those seasons were in progressive leagues and I don't think I've played in an open league in 13-15 years.

Bah, i think it would be more impressive to find out who has the WORST percentage of titles based on :
1. total teams
2. playoffs made
3. regular season %

Translation: Enjoy your bragging rights while you can, grizz, before it's shown that you got fat on open leagues. Amazing numbers by both owners however you slice & dice.

This is kind of fun. I agree Progs are a completely different animal. I just couldn't resist Ozo's juicy pitch right in my wheelhouse.

Schwartz and Rbow have both said one cannot compete for the title of GOAT having never won the WIS Championship tourney. And as one who has never played in that I Agree.

I will say way way back in the day, at least 2 full redesigns ago. With my old school Prime Time "Fatigue Strategy" team. I was unstoppable.

Alas, my days of glory. Long since past and forgotten. But how I remember announcing "It's Showtime" shortly after the all-star-break and then blowing through the second half and playoffs.

Sigh, I could'a been a contender...
I'm not sure I agree about the WIS Championship. When I had more time, I used to compete and came in 2nd once. But, in the past that tournament had skewed toward lower salary cap leagues because of the incorrect perception that building a team to win was easier in higher cap leagues. Since I haven't played in the WIS Championship in a while, I can't say whether this is still true.

Higher cap leagues tend to negate the strategies like using +++ range with high average hitters because it's not hard to draft pitchers that can deal with those kinds of players. Contrary to what some in the sim may think, the 1885 Roger Connor season isn't the best season ever by a first baseman. ;)

Back in the day, I believe that I was the first owner to win at least one title at every salary cap that can be chosen directly in the theme league setup module. Some people like to play in open leagues or higher cap leagues that behave like open leagues (because there are no theme restrictions) and utilize the same +++ range strategy with higher average hitters in a park with negative HR factors and positive factors for singles/doubles/triples. That's their right. Whether that makes them great owners is a matter for debate.

Some interesting stuff, Ozo. I think success is enjoying the game appropriately for one's life, though.

So you’re saying that if I win with a bunch of D- range, 40 speed, no doubles only HRs guys like Mike Piazza, Mark McGwire, and Gary Sheffield, then I’ll be considered great!

Me? I'm a one-trick pony. 255 Million, with no transaction deadline and no minor league cap. 5 mil cap infusion, the earlier the better. Pick-your-own AAA guys. At least 10 pitchers, (20 would be better) and many hitters, the more the merrier (for cutting and getting 200k per drop.)

Now under the above scenario, I'm pretty good. Anything else? Mediocre is about right.

Some may find that boring. But I enjoy it.

And as ArlenWilliam said, "I think success is enjoying the game appropriately for one's life, though."

THAT is the bottom line...
