This guy finally got injured, but only a stained hamstring for 11 days. Throw him in the 60 or wait for the next injury? The gains I'll get in speed/baserunning won't help what he is long term, IMO...

You'll gain more useful ratings by playing him. Wait for the next injury.
How do you determine if you will get ratings increase playing vs 60 DL?
You'll get a ratings increase just fine but for a hamstring it will be running attributes (Range, base running speed, base running IQ) which won't really be helpful for a player like this. You need him to have an arm or back injury to increase on the ratings you want.

What would you say is a good combined durability to get 2 platooning players through a 162 game season? (or is durability cumulative and it doesn't work like that?)

If I were to Platoon Brent Hammond vs righties and Red Dewitt vs lefties (keeping in mind Hammond would probably play more) would both of them get through the season?

I do this quite a bit with lower durability C. Use your above referenced platoon, but put DeWitt first in line on the player rest setting. That way in games that are blowouts, Hammond gets extra rest. Just make sure your manager settings state to rest players in games where you or your opponent have large leads and make sure your player setting for Hammond is set to allow rest. If you do the above, Hammond will make it to the trade deadline before he sees any fatigue.

And, to answer your question, the platoon vs. Righties should have a durability in the low 70s to make it the whole season with little fatigue.

Also, I wouldn't do it with Hammond this season because he is still developing and needs to play, but in the future sit both of them during ST. Spring training tends to play a large role in player fatigue.

I remember reading somewhere that "players with a durability rating of X or higher will be able to play 162 games without getting tired" but cannot recall what that rating was. For some reason the number 80 sticks in my mind, but I don't think that's quite right. Anyone have a better memory than me?

I do not know the exact # but this guy got below 100 a few times so I had to rest him a few games.

I did not know the type of injury reflected which statistics get the bump.
Thanks for that.

Has anyone ever tried to demote a young ML player to AAA after playoffs have started only to promote right after to get a promotion boost? Is it even possible or do you need to wait 10 HBD days for that promotion?

i have never seen a demotion penalty after ML playoffs begin.
2/19/2020 8:19 PM
I don't about the first part, but your second part is correct. Big league players won't take a demotion penalty when demoted after the ML regular season ends.
2/19/2020 9:03 PM
I would be careful with that. I haven't tried it with the demotion/promotion from MLB to AAA, but I tried it once with AAA to AA. I had a season where my AA was going to make the playoffs, but AAA was not going to be in the playoffs. The thought process was that my prospect (that was currently in AAA) had a high patience rating and if i demoted him to AA, he would not take a demotion hit, but the extra games he would play in AA would give him a decent year end promotion bump. Boy was I wrong, the demotion hit was huge. Not sure if it would be the same as a MLB to AAA demotion.

I have noticed that if you demote and promote right after a development cycle, it is usually fine. However, if you demote right in the middle of of a cycle (i.e 15-30 days after the players most recent development cycle, he takes a demotion hit.

If strikeout is correct above though, I think you should be fine. If you find out otherwise, please let us know.

I have literally demoted hundreds of BL players after the regular season and never took a demotion penalty. I typically call up every player on my 40 at roster expansion and then demote every player that is pre-arb once I am eliminated from the playoffs to give myself roster flexibility and save a few hundred grand (i.e. Instead of players making $343k or $360k, they only make $327 despite having BL experience the previous season). Tlowster is right though that if you demote players from one minor league level to another, they will take a demotion penalty.

Those that have signed players or pitchers to maximum contracts, looking back at the deals and the production that you got out of the player, would you have given the player/pitcher a max contract again or would you have walked away?
2/24/2020 11:22 AM
I've offered multiple Max Contracts, signed only one. In a similar vein, I've executed a few more obvious Overpays with dead seasons of money after the player's major league usefulness has expired. All have been for the same reason: To try to obtain an Ace SP, for a team with all other positions filled, with the objective to win playoff games once we get there.

Under those circumstances, no regrets. Dead money is the price you pay for playing. The one Max guy I signed, I ended up trading him away for the final season of his deal anyway... he was still worth someone else's 20 mil.

I have signed a couple. I didn't regret it while my team was still competing for a championship. Once I needed to rebuild, I wanted the money free and traded said players.
