Cut a senior or just let him graduate? Topic

Hey all,

Next year I think I'm going to have a logjam in the frontcourt, and I'll have a Sim AI recruited SR Center who will get basically zero playing time. His WE already went down a few points this year with the limited time I gave him, and next year I'll (hopefully) have a FR C and SO C who will be getting meaningful minutes behind my starters.

In your experience: is it best to just cut the Sim AI Senior player and try and recruit another FR? Or should I just let the Sim AI Senior be unhappy and get almost no minutes next year and then graduate?

p.s. Thanks to everyone for indulging my rookie questions on the forum. I've learned more in the 3 posts I've made here than anywhere else, lol.

1) RS him if you think he can contribute in two seasons.
2) If he will never contribute then cut him.
3) If for some reason you want to balances classes you can keep him and let him ride the bench.

No reason to redshirt him at the beginning of the season. You can keep him off the depth chart, see how recruiting goes, and if it looks like you’ll be able to replace him in the second session, let him walk; if you strike out on a couple battles, you can put the redshirt on after the season (provided he hasn’t played) and you bring him back, albeit with no work ethic (which probably doesn’t matter, assuming he’s maxed or almost maxed by his senior season). You will essentially get to use scholarship resources for him in consecutive seasons; if you redshirt him to start the season, you will not get the extra cash.

i'm not 100% sure i follow, so let me try. am i right in thinking, this guy is now a junior - and the season has already started (or just finished, perhaps) - and soon, the world will rollover, and you are thinking of cutting him right after he becomes a senior, in session 2?

if that is correct - if you cut him now - you do get money for session 2. often, session 2 money is valuable, and often, its not. usually you cut a guy so you get money next year - but hes a senior (or will be), so you get money for him no matter what. in the olden days, it was worthless to cut a senior, because you got the money anyway. but now you can get session 2 money for players you didn't recruit only (he is listed as sim ai - not as you - right? sometimes that gets messed up if he just was recruited in session 1 when you joined - if that happened, its pointless to cut him, because you get no money until next year).

anyway, if you can use the money in session 2, i'd cut him. if not, its basically pointless, but if you won't use him no matter what, its not like cutting him hurts. so i would just try to evaluate, what is more worthless to you - the session 2 money, or that recruit as a senior. if you feel like either has some value, just go for it - i don't think you can get this one too wrong.

maybe my best cc rant ever...

team lays an egg in big game.
I go on and on about wanting to cut the whole team etc etc.
and then i say..

"I just want to clarify, I am not talking about kicking them off the team (although that would be good too)....
I am talking about physically cutting them.
then maybe chopping them up into small bits and burying them in my backyard beside kelby03."

If you don’t let him get his degree he’ll end up on the street as a depraved derelict plotting your murder.

We are currently watching the back end of a article who confirmed the misshape of the failed pay to players system from another school or booster. I think several die hards are soon to be in distraught as I will always be watching how Mack Brown is just a horrible hire and they expect 6 wins with fraud while no student is at that school and we will not see a UNC major*** in about 50 years when they expect another Michael Jordan to clear the dirt of the goat.

I would love to see this in email form from my assistant.

Spoken like somebody who coaches in my conference and wants me to hold on to a maxed out, crappy senior as opposed to bringing in a freshman ;)

lol, all kidding aside, great season. Hoping I can at finish second in ECC next year.
