that was my thought. $70mm for the most productive hitter but not a good fielder and those three players make up 39% of payroll. huge chunk.

Of course, we are nitpicking the most powerful hitter in the game. : ) And I don't care about fielding in the OF, range is more important. But this debate is what makes this theme interesting.

$60M leaves $120M to build a pitching staff and 5 more bats. I'd take that. Piecemeal you'd spend $30-40M on 3 hitters anyway...i only have a bit more than $40M tied up in Mantle so I'm not complaining...he'll be productive.

His production far outweighs his lack of defense. He is a terror. Big bat, .500 on base. A nightmare to pitch to.

C/B, C+/A and D/C aren't awful. The 2nd one is also a pretty good 1B, so you have versatility. Such a problem to have...

true. i took a chance and experimented with great range in dimaggio. gonna use a hitters park but not sure about the HR factor yet. if not negative it will be no more than +1. probably.

Another thing about Ruth, all 3 of those seasons are worthy of a 180 cap league. Most players I'm looking at, pitchers included, have 2 great seasons and that 3rd one you really wouldn't want in a 180 cap league. So I'm thinking about the 3rd season on some of these players are going to be sitting on the bench or in a Mopup role and just taking up salary cap space.

Who's it gonna be, Mikey? Rusty Peters? Dick Drago? Maroth is still on the board...Bilko? He can hit them a mile...

Getting Ty Cobb with the 14th pick is a steal. This has been an interesting draft so far - I'm enjoying the forum comments and discussion. And feeling good about my upcoming pick (#19). With 4 picks ahead of me I've still got 5 of my pre-draft choices available...

I think my lack of experience is going to shine in this league. I’m guessing 60 wins would be a lot for me.
