The surest out in baseball was to hit it near Ripken. He studied and played every batter perfectly. If you hit it near him, you were out. One year he made 3 errors all season and still did not win the gold glove. Insane.

As a lifelong Os fan I remember that season well. I believe Guillen was awarded the glove that year.

I thought it was vizquel. Glad to have another Orioles fan around.

Well, this one season, he actually hit pretty well also.

By the way, when was the last time the Orioles were relevant passed May?

Yes Vizquel! Yeah 91 I remember the MVP battle was going down between Ripken and Fielder. It’s been some dark dark years since then, marred by roids, mismanagement, terrible ownership, lack of scouting, poor drafts, mishandling of pitching, fan apathy, terrible announcers, and a tight division with unlimited resources.
