Pitchers' inning available settings Topic

What is your philosophy for your bullpen? All set up pitchers set to "any"? Do you stagger them, have some available 6, 7, 8, 9?

Just me, but I use 'any' on all of them. I usually have my guys that pitch well against lefties and righties as my SUA. I usually have my guys that are good against one of the other at LRA, LRB or SUB

I'm moving to more and more just classifying all of them as Setup A with Any. Simmy will just put the best pitcher in at that point in time. So then, your decision is what do you use as a pull setting?

I put all of my bullpen guys to a pull of 5 regardless of how well or poorly of a pitcher they are. It ensures the best matchups and that a guy doesn't get hung out to dry with 1 or two bad batters. That way too I can have more right vs right and left vs left.

I'm surprised by these answers. Trusting Simmy to put the right guy in at the right time?

When I "optimize" batting order I'm not a fan of the results.
Same with pitching staff. Same with PC settings.

I've come to not trust simmy for much of anything.

Agreed. If they had Setup ABCD I'd do it. Sometimes simmy puts in or pulls the guy at the absolute wrong time and it costs me. Or in my one team I traded for 2 leftie specialists because I needed help against left handed batters. Now, because they have the highest overall, simmy things its funny to put them in first chance he gets and after they face the leftie they get rocked by righties. I want more control.

Depends on time of year and the type of relievers you have. I like running short staffs with high dur/sta relievers, so I have to be careful about running through those guys too quickly. I usually go 2 for my SUA guys and 1 for MOP, then bump SUA up to either 3 or 4 for the playoffs.

I set my starters 1-4 with a tandem at 4 if needed. I set the rest to sa unless one is really weak then he is mop up. I set them all to any with pull ratings of 1 or 2. Then I roll. Works for me really well so I stick with it. Playoffs are a little different but not much. When I aquire a pitcher or take over a team I see what they have them set up at and I cannot help but smile.
