Eight games into conf play in D3, one of these players is averaging 2.9 steals per game in conference play and is tied for 16th in the nation in steals with 2 per game overall. The other two are averaging 1.3 each respectively. I run a full court press defense.

Player 2 is my guess. I'd normally guess player 1, but the fact that you're asking shows that it's likely P2. The ST also helps a ton. Also P2 likely plays PG (gets more steals) and P1 probably plays SF.

Correct on player 2, but I listed them in position order. Player 1 plays the 1 spot (PG) and Player 2 plays the 2 spot (SG).

I'm still baffled but this is the guy. I definitely can see how the stamina helps and it's important to note that while he's averaging 2.9 steals per game in conference play he's also averaging 2.9 fouls per game in conference play as well. But still, as a coach who recruits high ATH/SPD/DEF guards in a press defense and routinely has players averaging 2-3 steals per game I've never had someone quite like Manuel Smith.

I think its the coding. I really don't think his ratings are causing the steals. I think he is on the court more than the others so he gets credited with them.

Just my hunch.

I also have a hunch (and so do others Ive spoke with) that ball handling and steals correlate. I'd like to see someone do a study on that. Any ideas on that topic?

Bh and steals correlate? I think you are confusing that bh and speed correlate and then speed and steals correlate.

i think mully is the winner. plus the random sample comment.

individual stats are annoyingly window dressing-y in this game. too much 'this happened, let me find a guy to assign this to', not enough direct cause and effect. potentially some of that is needed, im not really complaining here, just saying how it is.

Is there any correlation between the height of a player and defensive performance? Do height and weight really factor into the code at all? Just curious, something I've always thought about...

there's a correlation between height and reb/sb at the time of recruit generation, and something similar for weight i think but in terms of in-game performance, there is no impact of height or weight. i think the game admins would say 'the effects of height and weight are already taken into account in each player's ratings'
