I just picked up a player from waivers. A decent enough catch to be considered a bargain at the ML minimum. I hadn't noticed, though, that he has a makeup rating of 1. I have never encountered a ML player even as low as 10. How should I be expecting this apparent defect to affect him in the near and far term. I'm guessing his ratings may drop off the table very quickly. What's the consensus on this? Thanks in advance.

A useful enough DH/PH. His power's going to fall off but at age 30 that'll happen anyway. Looks like being buried in the minors hasn't hurt him all that much.

In general, I think very low makeup players decline earlier than others. But that doesn't matter all that much; you can see what we can't, which is whether he has already begun to decline at age 30, and in which categories. Previous decline predicts future decline better than anything else.

By the way, I think he's strictly a platoon DH.

Another thing with low a low makeup rating is the injury recovery. I have seen players with low makeup get very little injury recovery even with a maxed medical and training budget.

I don't think anyone can be certain unless you see the code. I have guys with low makeup that hit their projection, guys that missed it and guys that overstepped it. I can not say if it is more or less than a guy with mid or high makeup. The guy below hit on nearly all his physical ratings and ever so slightly fell short on his coachable ratings, but I can't say for sure that it is the low makeup rating that caused it.
