Bradsher and vilefileman have both selected their versions of Falkenberg; so, I will take Cy Falkenberg, 1913.

Well, it's all about options with the teammates... This guy gives me a couple options (Zobrist at 2B or Bartlett at SS)... I can skip Bradsher and select...

2009 Carlos Pena, 3,897,366

every pick seems to change what my team looks like...

I'm just trying to understand how it is that Darin Erstad had a monumental season at age 26 and then never hit again, yet still managed to play 9 more useless seasons anyway.

Norm Cash could fall into that same catagory

You are fully realizing the beauty and frustration of this type of draft.

I much prefer 16x16 where teammates can come from anywhere

I'm having a ball with the frustration of being stuck with certain terrible choices and some really good ones personally lol

Yes his defense was still mostly very good. He won GG in '02 in CF and '04 at 1B, so that helped. His dWAR in '02 is a really impressive 4.2. And I guess no one talked about any of those metrics until much later. It just seems like someone should have noticed they had a guy leading off who could barely get on base 3/10 of the time, for a very competitive team. This is just the Mike Scioscia brilliance at work, I suppose.

(Can you tell I'm looking at these lousy seasons and trying to figure out what to do with them?)

Yes and no. I mean, he never approached that amazing 1961 again. I don't think folks appreciated the expansion dilution effect enough at the time.

But he did post 12 straight seasons of 120+ OPS+ from ages 28-39 and then 112 at age 40 before retiring. So he was always an above average hitter, in a pretty soft hitting era.
