Thanks gillispie. I actually got the 3-peat last season with my Louisiana squad in Naismith; we got knocked out in the S16 this season. But I am on track for a possible 3-peat with my Wooden Beloit team. We won our second in a row last night, and should return a pretty strong team next season (depending on how recruiting ends up). You're probably referring to my Beloit program, which has been successful for a long time. I've had a few hot streaks over the years, where we had a stretch of 5-6 really successful seasons, but I think our current hot streak is the best we've ever had.
I don't know narcotico, but I competed against jsa in both Wooden and Naismith. He was the long-time coach at NC Wesleyan in Wooden, and at Southwestern in Naismith, where we competed directly against each other. He and I were part of a crew of DIII super coaches (most of us from Wooden) that took over the University Athletic Association conference. That was the most competitive conference I have ever coached in - by far - and it was tons of fun. jsa won back to back titles at Southwestern there, but he never got a 3-peat. I think the same is true for his NC Wesleyan squad in Wooden. I think he left when the new recruiting format was introduced, but I'm not sure about that.
very interesting, thanks for the history! i always like hearing that stuff. and congrats again - even if it is a season late :)
i was so skeptical about his lack of a 3-peat, i had to check! this is end of 2015 accurate list of d3 3peats:
Consecutive National Championships - division 3
Place, Streak, Team, Conference-World, Coach(es)
1 3 Delaware Valley Freedom-7 jsajsa
2 3 Greensboro USA South-8 narcotico
3 3 Martin Luther CCIW-1 mrg1037
4 3 Texas, Dallas ASC-5 bunkerbuster
a single school cannot show up on these lists twice - which is why narcotico shows once, with his two 3peats at the same school. i also was glancing over some historical greatest dynasty ever stuff from 2016 - jsa had 3 programs in the top 10 of d3 history for like, 10 seasons or something. sounds like you are talking about 2/3 there - the 3rd is the one where he actually got the 3peat apparently! that is what was so crazy about the jsa success IMO - he was running 3 of the greatest d3 programs of all time all roughly at the same time. im not sure all 3 really overlap but it was close enough. but yeah looks like delaware valley in world 7 is where he punched his 3peat ticket
that said - im sure there's more 3peats in the 5ish years since that data was gathered - i think i remember seeing at least 1 new one posted here on the forums, maybe 2. but still, you might be one of 5-7 people to ever pull a d3 3peat. pretty cool!
