oh, is he not good enough to use at catcher?

No, his bat doesn't justify a pitch-calling rating that low. I have used two catchers with 48 pitch calling ratings, but they were both HoF caliber hitters. You could probably use him as a 25th man to come off the bench and pinch hit, but that is all that he is good for and you could actually find a better option for that role at league minimum on the waiver wire, in the rule 5 draft, or in free agency.

oh ok. so when the popup for a position says that the big league average for pitch calling is 50 (or for whatever defensive stat), that's more of a bare minimum than an average?

It depends on how much you value defense. I think it's safe to say that most veteran owners use those as a minimum instead of an average for the most part. Obviously, the better the hitter the more lenient you can be with his defensive ability.

But he's not capable of playing more than one in three games anyway. The system generates some catchers like that, they're supposed to reflect real life in that they're backups only. I would argue that in sporadic use, one-game samples, low pitch calling won't hurt you. Not like it would obviously show up if he were to play 120 games. But I probably wouldn't start him in a critical playoff game unless I absolutely needed his bat.

Someone I have pitching a game after next is currently 79 (100) so he'll be 100% when he pitches but does it matter that he's tired now? Or does 100% mean 100%, if that makes sense. I generally make sure my SP are 100% the day before he pitches. Just curious. Thanks.

Why is https://www.whatifsports.com/hbd/Pages/Popups/PlayerRatings.aspx?pid=10425428 41 rated? He seems like a pretty solid hitter unless there's something I'm overlooking. Bad health scores but he could be a backup, right?
Id have no issue using someone with his pitch calling. But I think id look for someone better as he is not that good of a hitter.

He will be at 100% when he pitches.

Anyone know what happens now that there are no available worlds to join? Are they starting new ones?

They have started a few new ones.

I am having a bit of an ADV Scouting related brain fart...that determines the ratings you see before you sign someone, and then HS/COL/IFA budget determines the ratings you see once the player has signed, correct? Or is it the other way around?
4/19/2020 9:03 AM
The other way around.

Will a free-agent-to-be sign an extension all the way up to rollover? (i.e., can I wait for my pitcher to make his last start in the playoffs to make sure he doesn't blow out his arm before extending him?)

After the last game of the World Series rosters freeze. So, as long as his last start isn't THE last start, you can wait. Therefore, if you're in the World Series, you have to re-sign him as soon as one player gets to three wins.
